ME's Everyday Transaction Account offers all the handy features you would expect from a competitive bank account including no monthly fees, no fees on electronic transactions and free access to ATMs anywhere in Australia. Plus, ME offers a real point of difference as the account comes with a Debit Mastercard called Buck which comes in a range of colours.

Key features

If you do most of your banking online, over the phone and you frequently make use of ATMs, the ME Everyday Transaction Account won't cost you a thing. There are no account fees and you'll never have to worry about ATM fees with this account in Australia as you can use any ATM free of charge (ME will refund you any ATM withdrawal fees you incur).

Buck is the account's debit card, which is linked to the Mastercard network, which allows users to make purchases online or in store anywhere in the world where MasterCard is accepted. That's over 30 million locations in case you were wondering. Speaking of Buck, you won't have any trouble finding it in your wallet, because you'll have a choice of five stylish card colours including Avocado Green, Lobster Red, Pineapple Yellow, Shark Blue or Pink (ME will even donate 1 cent to the National Breast Cancer Foundation for every purchase made with the pink card).

While ATM withdrawals are free within Australia just be aware that international ATM withdrawals are $4 a pop and overseas purchases and withdrawals will also incur a 2.30% international transaction fee on top of the Australian dollar amount.

ME's Everyday Transaction Account also isn't compatible with digital wallets like Apple Pay or Google Pay just yet, but according to me they are on the way.

Who is it good for

Anyone above the age of 16 can open an ME Everyday Transaction Account. It's a good account for those who want to skip account keeping fees, ATM fees and don't mind giving up the option of making deposits or withdrawals from a local branch.

Any catches

Just watch shopping with Buck as there is a $2,000 per day, per card daily debit card withdrawal limit.

Also, like most everyday accounts, funds in a ME Everyday Transaction account won't earn any interest. So you would be better off slipping your savings over to a saving account with a higher interest rate like the ME Online Savings Account and transferring money across when needed.

    Only if you’re VERY patient

No branches. Credit Card entries take days to show up on Internet Banking. An hour to get thru via phone, the only possible way to contact them. It isn’t 1970.

    Try another bank

Takes over eight hours to make a bank to bank transfer. Hang up on you after 25 minutes on hold, moving away from Me bank ASAP. Don’t use them!

    No, just no

Online banking frequently crashes leaving customers with no access to their money. Customer service is close to non existent. No branches and I can’t get through on the phone. Typical online response is a generic "we are sorry for your inconvenience“. No Apple Pay or Oslko
