Mozo People’s Choice Awards reveals what Aussies are saying about their insurers

Nearly 10,000 people have had their say in the 2015 People’s Choice Insurance Awards, rating their car, home and travel insurer on everything from price to customer service.

The awards covered 255 providers over a period of 18 months and the results showed that some of the biggest insurance providers didn’t make the list. For instance, while the average score of the combined winners was a high 8.5, some of Australia’s major players only scored an average of 7.6 across the three categories.

Want to see the top insurance players that impressed the people? To showcase the winners, we decided to pull out some of the customer reviews that made them worthy of the title of “best” in their category. Starting from the top:

Best Car Insurer
Real Insurance – overall customer rating 8.48 out of 10

Price: Real Insurance customer Cain looked around for a better deal after receiving another rise in premiums from one of the major insurance players. “I decided to go down the path of pay per km’s as we have been bombarded with adverts lately telling us how much we could save…After looking at a couple of insurers that offer this type of insurance, I opted for Real Insurance and have never looked back. I am now saving close to 50% compared to my previous supplier with the same if not better service.”

Customer service: Candice couldn’t fault Real Insurance and was especially impressed by their customer service: “They answer the phone quickly instead of making me wait on hold listening to automated options. They call you back for any follow up queries and to make sure you are fully satisfied with the outcome and they reimburse you with a 10% refund on any contributions during the first 12 months.”

Claims process: Jan experienced a smooth claims process, explaining “the morning I was booked in for HIP surgery at the local hospital, and a month after changing to Real Insurance I had a car accident. REAL organised everything with my local repairer whilst I could recuperate in hospital. They were very kind, helpful and went beyond the call of duty.”

Best Home Insurer
Youi – overall customer rating 8.30 out of 10

Price: Margie found Youi to offer excellent service and very competitive premiums. “I have been with this insurer for over three years and each year I ring around to be sure I have the best deal, no other company has been able to match my present company.  When I have called my insurer to do a little better on the policy they have been very happy to work out something that is acceptable to me. I have always found them to be extremely courteous and have recommended them to friends who have also reported they are very happy with the service, and in fact one friend made a claim and said the service was first rate.”

Customer service: While Youi customer Rachel says she has always felt uncomfortable having to deal with things over the phone, “every time I have had to call Youi’s customer service team they have always made it so easy for me.”

Claim process: “Fantastic service”, says Arthur who had no trouble making a claim. “They came up with the money almost immediately, a very good service from a great insurer. I would recommend to anyone.”

Best Travel Insurer
Southern Cross Travel Insurance – overall customer rating 8.77 out of 10

Price: Nicholas describes Southern Cross Travel Insurance as offering great value for money. “Southern Cross saved me hundreds of dollars on travel insurance (which the next nearest quote was asking for) and I still had the security and peace of mind that I would be looked after in case something really did happen.”

Claims process: Leslie received top customer service after an auto accident in the UK. “My claim was dealt with in 24 hours with no fuss.”

Customer service: “Spot on, we couldn’t have been in better company,” says customer Robert. “Easy to deal with, from the beginning, with deciding on a policy, to the end of our cruise around New Zealand, and return to Australia. On return, we received emails, of welcome home, reviews required of their service, and general good communication.”
