Warm up your wallet with bank freebies

If everything from your post Easter debt to your latest utility bill has seen your savings take a hit, there’s no better time to take advantage of some of the great freebie offers available in the banking world and warm up your wallet for this winter.

From cash back on your home loan to rewards points on your transaction account, here are some of the top bank incentives available now:

It seems the power is in the hands of the refinancer, with a handful of providers putting some pretty tempting offers on the market to encourage home owners to make the switch, including…

ING DIRECT Orange Advantage Offset Home Loan – 1% cash back offer

From 1 May 2015, ING DIRECT is offering customers who switch to its Orange Advantage Offset Home Loan and deposit a minimum of $1,000 into the Orange Everyday transaction account each month a 1% cash back on their monthly home loan repayments of up to $3,000. For example, if you made a monthly repayment of $2,500, you would receive $25 cash back per month.

Other features: 4.54% variable rate (LVR 80% or less and loan amount over $150,000), no application fee and $199 annual fee.

St.George Advantage Package – $1,250 rebate towards your switching costs

Any refinancer will know that switching home loan providers can be pricey with application, valuation and legal fees to factor into the equation. To help you combat these costs (and tempt you to make the switch) St.George has introduced a $1,250 rebate offer with its Advantage Package when you bundle your home loan with its credit card and transaction account. Keep in mind loan amounts must be over $250,000 and the offer ends 31 May 2015.

Other features: 4.74% variable rate for loans over $500k, no application fee and $395 annual fee.

Newcastle Permanent home loans – $1,000 cash back offer

Do you have a mortgage over $150,000 and are looking to refinance to a better deal? Then Newcastle Permanent’s $1,000 cash back offer when you switch to one of its home loans is sure to entice. When you consider its Discounted Variable Home Loan (Premium Plus Package)  has one of the lowest interest rates in the market for loans over $250k at 4.29%, you’re sure to save a bundle in interest too. Offer ends 30 June 2015.

Northern Inland Credit Union home loans – $1,000 cash back and a free iPhone 6

What’s better than free cash? The answer is an iPhone 6 thrown into the mix on top of a $1,000 cash back offer, when you make the switch to one of the following Northern Inland Credit Union home loan packages – Smart Home Loans, Basic Home Loan or Dream Value Home Loan. But you better get in quick because the offer ends 30 April 2015.

Macquarie Basic Home Loan (LVR 80-90%)10,000 Qantas points for every $100,000 drawn at settlement

If you prefer earning rewards points to cash back, the Macquarie Basic Home Loan could be just for you, as you’ll quickly see your rewards points soar with 10,000 Qantas points for every $100,000 drawn at settlement. And you’ll continue to earn rewards points over the life of the loan, as you’ll receive 1,000 points for every month of your loan balance over $150,000, and 25,000 points on your 3rd and 5th anniversaries of the home loan – romantic indeed!

Other features: 4.79% variable rate, no application or annual fee.

While plastic is known as the king when it comes to rewards points offers, there are two credit cards that stand out of the pack, offering generous cash back and rewards offers:

Coles credit cards – $100 off your Supermarket shop

If you’re a new customer who signs up with either Coles’ No Annual Fee MasterCard or Rewards MasterCard by 31 May 2015 you can slash your next Coles supermarket shop by $100 – a great way to stock up on all those household basics! Both cards come with a 19.99% purchase rate and as the name suggests you are exempt from paying a yearly fee with the No Annual Fee MasterCard, while the Rewards MasterCard’s annual fee is just $49.

American Express Velocity Platinum Card – 50,000 bonus points offer

When Mozo’s experts recently crunched the numbers on rewards credit cards they found the American Express Velocity Platinum Card offered the goods, with 50,000 bonus point (when you spend $500 on your card within first 3 months) giving you 7.2 return flights from Sydney to Melbourne. Apply by 30 June 2015.

Any catches? Just be mindful the card comes with a high 20.74% purchase rate, so keep on top of your monthly repayments and you’ll also need to budget for the $349 annual fee.
