Making the most of your interest free days is one of the best ways to keep your credit card balance under control. With a Bank of Queensland credit card, you’ll have either 55 or 44 days in your interest free period, depending on which card you have. Just remember that these days start at the beginning of your statement cycle, not when you make the purchase.
First things first, you’ll have to contend with the annual fee attached to your Bank of Queensland credit card. Generally speaking, the more spending and rewards power your card allows you, the higher the annual fee will be. Other fees you should keep an eye out for include cash advance fees when you hit up the ATM and foreign exchange fees. And if you want to have more than one person using the credit account, there’s a fee for additional cards on all but the premium credit card option.
Yep. If you’re using your Bank of Queensland credit card to do a balance transfer and manage your credit card balance, you’ll get an initial zero interest period in which to pay off your balance. Just remember that any unpaid balance will then be charged interest at the cash advance rate of your card - which is much higher.
Definitely! PayWave is a VISA scheme, and your Bank of Queensland credit card works on the VISA network. So you can use your credit card to ‘tap ‘n’ go’ on small purchases.
Yes! Another good thing about the VISA network, is that it’s available all around the world. And where VISA is accepted, your Bank of Queensland credit card is too!
Just don’t forget to budget for foreign transaction fees in your holiday plans. Otherwise, you can skip the fees by checking out a great prepaid travel card.
Bank of Queensland have their own loyalty program, through which you earn Q points. You can redeem these points for heaps of great stuff, including merchandise, gift cards, cashback and travel.
Points caps and earning power is different depending on which rewards card you choose:
Blue Visa Card - earn 1 point for every $1, capped at 65,000 p.a.
Platinum Visa Card - earn 2 points per $1, capped at 240,000 p.a.
But the good news is points never expire, so you can save up for that big overseas holiday!
If you opt for a platinum card, you can also use the complimentary concierge service, which is like having your very own personal assistant to help with things like shopping and snagging event tickets.
On both a platinum or blue credit card from Bank of Queensland, you’ll enjoy purchase protection and guaranteed pricing when you spend. If you're a platinum cardholder, you’ll also get to cash in on some other cool insurance covers, like complimentary international travel insurance and extended warranty cover.
You should always be aware of the risk of credit card fraud when spending, but don’t let it stop you from taking advantage of the convenience of plastic! Here are a few quick things you can do to keep your credit card safe.
Never write down your PIN number or tell it to anyone else. If you have trouble remembering it and absolutely need to write it down, don’t keep it in the same place as your card.
Be observant when using your card - don’t go to an ATM that looks suspicious or damaged and when you use your card in a shop, keep an eye on it the whole time.
When using your card for online shopping, look for secure websites that you trust
Keep an eye on your statement. If you notice anything unusual or see any transactions you didn’t make, call Bank of Queensland immediately.

High interest rates but a great rewards program. We generally pay off our monthly balance so the interest rate does not have a huge effect on us. The rewards are what attracts me.

Worst bank ever for credit cards - this bank refuses to remove a credit debt off my credit report that was paid off in 2018. Think twice before agreeing to a credit card with boq.

I utilise the BOQ Platinum CC alongside our mortgage offset which is bundled with our BOQ home loan. In utilising an offset for our home loan and a CC for monthly expenses this allows our account balance for the offset to remain high for longer. We’ve saved about an extra $40-$50 on interest a month. We also pay no yearly fee as while you have a mortgage you have $0 yearly fees for the card. Our monthly expenses are several thousand after utilities, groceries etc. So, we have CC debt debited automatically and then we don’t get any late fees either. This strategy may not work well for those on lower incomes but works well for a medium household income. Other than that the inclusions on this card like purchase protection, rewards and insurance for travel are beneficial.
