May 2020 Financial Checklist
Is it just me, or does time go by so much quicker in lockdown? As the calendar flicks over to the 1st of May another month in the post-coronavirus world begins. We hope you’re all safe, healthy and taking extra special care of yourselves during this difficult time.
Once again, we’ve put together a bunch of ideas for you to take on board as inspiration over the next month. So, grab yourself a cuppa, put your feet up and soak up your fave Financial Checklist: May 2020 edition.
Make the most of it this Mother’s Day
While we all continue to adjust to the new ‘normal’, it’s always a little harder when birthdays and holidays start to pop up. Nevertheless, our willingness to turn lemons into lemonade is what gets us through.
From virtual family lunches to kitchen cookoffs, last month we all rose to the challenge and embraced a lowkey lockdown Easter. Now, with Mother’s Day coming up on the 10th, we’re forced to think outside the box yet again. If you ask us, a DIY spa day at home for mum sounds perfect right now!
In saying this, our thoughts are with those who won’t be spending the day with mum this year due to the current circumstances. We know it’s not the same, but celebrating via Zoom or FaceTime is better than not celebrating at all.
So whether you’ll be making DIY facemasks or hosting an epic online Pictionary match, we encourage you to make the most of it and hope that all the mums out there have a very Happy Mother’s Day!
Save two birds with one sustainable fashion piece
Of all the negative news right now, one shining light has been the fact that by slowing down and staying home we’ve seen fewer cars on the road and, as a result, the planet has started to repair itself. Which has had us thinking, what else can we do to continue helping the environment?
If you follow us on Instagram (@mozo.com.au ) then last week you might’ve spotted a few familiar faces from Mozo showing off some of their favourite sustainable clothes for Fashion Revolution Week. So why not explore the world of ethical clothing? What you’ll find is that making eco-friendly choices can benefit both the planet and your wallet - so why not kill (or save) two birds with one stone?
Take your side hustle to the next level
Whether you’ve recently picked up a paintbrush or bought a wix.com domain, many people are using their time in self-isolation to take on new creative pursuits and side hustles. So, if you’ve been thinking about dusting off that old guitar or starting an online clothing store, now could be the time.
If your soul’s calling you to follow your dreams, then don’t just sit around and wait ‘til the time’s ‘right’. We’re never truly ready, so if not now, then when? Let’s face it, folks, we’re in a global pandemic! So that excuse about not having enough time just won’t cut it anymore.
And if you don’t have the skills or aren’t in the right financial position to open shop just yet, then use this time to start making plans or to take one of the many online courses available at the moment (loads of them are free!) so you’ll be ready to take your side hustle to the next level down the track.
Challenge yourself in self-isolation
From push up challenges to Top 5 album nominations, lately, we’ve just about seen it all in terms of social media mini-challenges. So, in the spirit of keeping your mind (or body) active during self-isolation, we challenge you to challenge yourself (plot twist!).
Whether that’s challenging yourself to boost your savings by ditching your barista-made morning coffee or getting in 10,000 steps a day, this month we challenge you to pick a goal and stick to it! And if you lose momentum, just picture yourself strutting out of self-isolation when this is all over, looking fierce and fab or with a pocket full of cash!
Take it from a Taurus
So far our Pisces pals and Aries allies have celebrated their birthdays in self-isolation - and now it’s your turn Taurus. We know it’s no fun being stuck at home on your special day, but as the homebodies of the zodiac, if anyone knows how to make the most of a quarantine birthday bash, it’s you, Taurus.
Earlier this year our Mozo Magic 8-ball predicted 2020 to be the year that you really start putting in the work to help you achieve your savings goals, Taurus. Lucky for you, one of the perks of staying home is that you should be able to save a whole lot more than if you had all your usual expenses to pay for.
If you take this time in self-isolation to revise your current budget and establish some solid savings habits, then your savings goals will be within reach in no time!
That’s a wrap. We’ll see you back here next time for another ripper month folks! In the meantime, you can visit our life and money hub for more money tips and tricks. And make sure to check out our Coronavirus hub to keep on top of all the latest COVID-19 news.
