The grant is open for first time buyers looking to buy a newly-constructed home, offering a one-off payment which you can use as part of your deposit.
The grant is not available to investors. Instead, you'll have to call the property home.
How much is the First Home Owner Grant in SA?
In South Australia, the First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) is $15,000.
Who is eligible for the First Home Owner Grant in SA?
You can get the $15,000 First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) in South Australia if you are a first home buyer looking to buy or build a brand-new home, valued up to $650,000.
Further eligibility requirements state that:
- At least 1 applicant must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
- Applicants or their spouses can't have owned/acquired residential property in Australia on or after 1 July 2000.
- You intend to move into your new property within 12 months of the sale.
- You have to live in the property as your principal place of residence (PPOR) for at least 6 months.
- Each applicant has to be older than 18 years of age when they apply.
How to apply for the first home owner's grant in SA?
In most cases, your home loan lender can lodge the FHOG application on your behalf. Otherwise, you can lodge it through RevenueSA .
However you decide to lodge your application, it must be done within 12 months of the purchase date.
When will the FHOG be paid?
The grant will be paid at different times, depending on how you applied and the type of property you're buying.
For example, if you apply through your lender, and you're purchasing a new or off-the-plan home, you can expect your FHOG payment on the date of settlement.
However, if you apply through RevenueSA, it can take about 5 days to receive, after you have submitted all the relevant supporting documents.

What other grants or schemes are available in SA?
As well as the $15,000 FHOG, South Australian first home buyers may be eligible for:
Stamp duty relief
- A transfer duty exemption for new homes valued up to $650,000, or vacant land valued up to $400,000.
- A concessional transfer duty rate for new homes valued between $650,000 and $700,000, or vacant land up to $450,000.
