With RAC Comprehensive Car Insurance you will have the option to dump your excess completely or set it as high as $2,000, as well as the flexibility to choose who repairs your car.
If you’ve recently bought a fresh set of wheels, RAC will replace your car with another new one if it is written off or stolen within two years of purchase. This policy also comes with a few generous cover caps. For example, if your car keys are stolen you’ll be covered up to the value of $2,000 to replace them. Trailers which are damaged in an accident are also covered up to the value of $2,000.
A unique feature of RAC Comprehensive Car Insurance is the discount you can accrue by insuring a low emissions car, which range from 5% to 25% depending on the age of the car. RAC will also reward you for signing up online, instantly slashing $50 off your first yearly premium.
This policy also covers anyone who drives your car through RAC’s open driver cover which is pretty handy if you’re regularly road-tripping and wouldn’t mind sharing the driving load. Just be aware that if a driver is under the age of 26 you could have to pay between $300 and $650 young driver excess if they’re involved in an accident.
It is also worth noting it will cost you more to pay your premiums monthly than if you were to do so annually. In terms of optional extras, you’ll have to elect for rental costs following an accident (although you're covered for hire cars after theft or fire). You'll also need to opt-in for an addition fee to take out roadside assistance through RAC.
This policy is only available if you’re in WA. It's a good policy for any driver wanting comprehensive cover, but customers who have taken the environmentally friendly route and secured themselves a low emissions car will get added value from this policy. It is worth remembering that without all rental costs covered as standard, you could be caught carless after an accident. RAC is also one of the few insurance companies without a 24/7 claims phone service, so you might have to exercise a little bit of patience during the insurance claim process, or lodge claims online.
