Essential Care Residential
Quality Care Residential
Westpac’s building insurance offers three different levels of cover to choose from. These are Essential, Quality and Premier. All three offer underinsurance protection, as well as a lifetime guarantee on authorised or arranged repairs. Along with being able to pay monthly at no cost, there’s also a 15% discount on offer, when you quote and buy online.
Whether your home has been through a fire or become a victim of vandalism, Westpac’s Residential Care building insurance has got you covered for heaps of events.
Plus with all three levels of cover, Essential, Quality and Premier, you will be provided cover for emergency accommodation and underinsurance. For both Quality and Premier cover emergency accommodation is up to 10% of your sum insured or the cost of accommodation for up to 12 months from the date of the event (whichever works out less). Emergency accommodation for Essential Care is capped at $10,000.
Underinsurance protection is provided in the form of a ‘safety net.’ This is a percentage extra that Westpac will pay, if it turns out that you were underinsured. For Essential Care this is up to 10%, Quality is up to 20% and Premier is up to 30% of your sum insured.
Both Premier and Quality Care provide cover for lock and key replacements and unsecured building materials. Essential Care does not. Also, if you opt for Premier Care cover, you will be covered for garden and landscaping costs as well.
Finally, if you quote and buy online, you should be able to snag yourself a 15% discount off your first year’s premium.
Westpac Premier Care Residential is a good option for anyone looking to choose a level of building insurance that works well for them.
If you want landscaping and garden cover, you will have to opt for the highest level of Westpac’s building insurance, Premier Care.

Don't dislike the insurer, just don't know how they will be there when we need to claim

We were always happy with our insurance. Until we needed them. After cyclone Yasi, our insurance company just wouldn't come to the party! Our shed wasn't covered, our window wasn't ever fixed properly and the cladding company left screws all over our yard. Then they doubled the cost of our insurance as we made a claim. They are lovely to talk to on the phone but at the end of the day, I would rather have bad customer service and my house fixed properly.

I did like my insurer until I made a claim on a land lord claim, they resolved it quickly by telling me I was not able to make a claim, classing it as a malicious act which I was unaware of that I should have specified Malicious cover when I took out land lord insurance. I didn't class a dog scratching my glass doors as a malicious act. Insurers need to clarify these hidden clauses instead of masking them over!
