Terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits may apply to any of the insurance products shown on the Mozo website. These terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits could affect the level of benefits and cover available under any of the insurance products shown on the Mozo website. Please refer to the relevant Product Disclosure Statement and the Target Market Determination on the provider's website for further information before making any decisions about an insurance product.

Any information provided on this page should be considered a summary and general advice only. All information should be verified before purchase via the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

What does Australia Post’s international travel insurance cover?

Australia Post offers both basic and comprehensive international travel insurance. It’s basic cover option comes with the following benefits:

Comprehensive international cover includes all of the above plus:

As well as all this, there is also more cover for accidental death and disability. The comprehensive policy offers up to $25,000 worth of cover for both of these benefits.

What add-ons does Australia Post’s travel insurance offer?

Australia Post’s international travel insurance offers a number of add-ons. With both the basic and comprehensive cover you can choose your excess, choose between single or multi-trip cover and choose to add cover for existing medical conditions.

With comprehensive international cover you can also choose to increase your single item limit for personal effects cover and increase your rental car excess cover. If you want to tailor your cover a little more, you can also add cover for winter sports and add cover if you plan to ride a motorcycle or moped while travelling.

What pre-existing conditions does Australia Post travel insurance cover?

Australia Post offers cover for some pre-existing conditions automatically and for others after a medical assessment has been completed. You may also be able to access cover for more pre-existing medical conditions by purchasing the optional existing medical conditions add-on.

It is also important to note that even if there is some cover provided for certain existing medical conditions, sub-limits and other conditions may apply. For example, Australia Post will only offer cover for asthma for people who are under 60 at the time of purchasing the policy and even then other conditions may apply. Read the full product disclosure statement (PDS) to see exactly how Australia Post defines medical conditions and what terms, conditions and sub-limits apply.

Does Australia Post’s international travel insurance cover pregnancy?

Australia Post’s international travel insurance policy provides some limited cover for pregnancy.

If you are aware that you are pregnant when applying for cover, you will need to fill out an online medical assessment form. This will ensure that you are covered in case you have had complications with previous pregnancies, or you have a multiple pregnancy (e.g. twins or triplets), or your pregnancy was medically assisted (e.g. if you received IVF).

In all cases cover will be restricted to serious, unexpected pregnancy complications that happen up until the 24th week of pregnancy (so that’s 23 weeks and 6 days). It’s also important to know that childbirth is not covered, regardless of what stage of the pregnancy the child is born. Costs relating to the health care of a newborn baby are also not covered. This is fairly standard for a travel insurance policy.

Does Australia Post’s travel insurance have age limits?

Australia’s Post’s single trip, international and domestic travel insurance is designed to provide cover for travellers aged up to 99-years-old. The age limit for multi-trip policies is 75-years-old.

Although these limits are fairly high, it is good to keep in mind that premiums for older travellers may be significantly higher. There will also be age sub-limits that apply with each policy. We recommend reading the PDS in full before signing up to a policy, to make sure you are aware of all the age limits that apply.

Can I extend my Australia Post travel insurance?

Not ready to go home? If for any reason you want to extend your trip and with that your travel insurance, you can purchase a new policy by calling or emailing Australia Post. Just make sure you contact Australia Post before the original policy expires, otherwise you may not be covered if something happens.

It is also good to note that this will not technically be an extension of your previous travel insurance policy, but will instead be a new travel insurance policy. When you take out the new policy, your travel insurance certificate will be adjusted with your new travel dates.

Another important thing to note is that if you are diagnosed with a medical condition before the new policy is issued, it may be considered an existing medical condition and you may not receive cover for it. Other restrictions may also apply, for instance there is a 12 month cover limit for worldwide cover.

Is there a cooling off period with Australia Post’s travel insurance?

Yes, Australia Post’s travel insurance policies come with a 21 day cooling-off period. This means that if your trip has not started and you have not made a claim on your policy, you may be able to get a full refund if you cancel within 21 days of purchasing it.

Does Australia Post’s travel insurance cover Covid-19?

No, unfortunately Australia Post’s travel insurance does not provide cover for any costs or expenses that may arise as a result of interruptions caused by Covid-19. So for example, if a government or public health authority requires you to enter quarantine or isolation, you will not be covered for any costs related to the incident.

These exclusions apply regardless of whether or not you test positive for Covid-19. Read the PDS document on Australia Post’s website for a full list of exclusions that apply to the travel insurance policies.

How to make a travel insurance claim with Australia Post?

You can lodge a travel insurance claim with Australia Post either online via the website, or by post. If it’s an emergency, you can also call Australia Post’s travel emergency assistance team 24/7.

To make your claim you will need to have some information handy, including medical or dental reports, police reports, reports from the airline or transport provider confirming lost or stolen luggage, as well as relevant receipts or invoices.

Is there a time limit to submit a travel insurance claim with Australia Post?

Yes, travel insurance claims must be submitted within 60 days of the return date listed on your policy. If you’re waiting on supporting documents, Australia Post recommends submitting your claim anyway, as you can always update your claim with supporting documents later on.

Once submitted, Australia Post will aim to process your claim within 10 business days.

The only thing that I didn't like was that most employees didn't seem to really know how to answer any questions I had before purchase. This didn't really have any consequences though as all the info is out there if you want to look.

I had to move my partner and y dream trip to Europe due to an injury. It took a lot of backwards and forwards phone calls with Aus Post to be told they couldn’t cover it. Eventually spoke to someone helpful who said if we were just ‘rescheduling’ our trip and not ‘cancelling’ then they would be able to cover it. They did cover the cost of flight and hotel changes but it was a very very painful process and not user friendly at all. In future I would use someone else as it was far to difficult to claim despite providing all paperwork requested
