Mozo Review   NAB Classic Banking Account (with Platinum Visa Debit Card) Review

Last updated: 9 October 2018.

What's hot:
  • Customer perks, including extended warranty and travel insurance

  • NAB concierge services

  • No overseas purchases fees

What's not:
  • $10 monthly account fee

Mozo snapshot:

The NAB Classic Banking Account has an option for a Platinum Visa Debit Card, which has a bunch of fairly unique features for a debit card, including travel insurance, purchase protection and 1% cashback on cashless purchases (up to $10 a month). This is on top of the usual benefits of unlimited free transactions over the phone, online and in branch. However, there is a $10 monthly account fee.

Key features:

The Platinum Visa Debit Card is a different sort of debit card, in that is has some of the features you might expect to see on a credit card.

To kick it off it comes with 7 complimentary insurances, including overseas travel insurance, domestic burglary insurance, extended warranty insurance and purchase protection insurance.

You’ll also have access to the NAB Concierge Service, which can be used to help book hotels, tickets to events and make restaurants reservations.

Another one of the more distinctive features of the Platinum Visa Debit Card is it’s contactless purchases cashback offer. For purchases you make using Visa payWave, NAB Pay or Fitbit Pay you’ll get 1% back, up to $10 a month.

If you are travelling or ordering overseas products online, you won’t be charged any overseas fees, or foreign exchange commission, making traveling and online shopping all that much better.

While very small, the account will also earn 0.01% interest.

But all this value does come with a price tag - there’s a $10 monthly fee to take into account.

Who it's good for:

The NAB Classic Banking Account with Platinum Visa Debit Card is great for a spender who’s in the market for a debit card, but still keen to cash in on some premium perks usually reserved for credit cards.

Any catches?

The NAB Classic Banking Account with Platinum Visa Debit Card has a $10 monthly account fee. This can add up if you aren’t using any of the services and not getting any money back through its cashback program.

About NAB

National Australia Bank is one of the big four banks who provide a large variety of financial products to the Australian Community. In recent times NAB has set itself apart from the other big four banks; by expanding their ATM network, removing many fees and maintaining low standard variable home loan rates. NAB's changes to its financial products have made their home loan, credit card, loans, savings accounts and personal loans more competitive within the banking industry.
