  • 2017 Mozo Experts Choice Award

Mozo snapshot:

With a low $30 annual fee, the 2017 Mozo Experts Choice winning First Credit Card from ANZ is perfect for a spender looking for greater value from their no frills credit card. On new purchases you'll get up to 44 days interest free but be sure to pay off your balance in full each month or you'll start paying 19.74% interest.

If you're looking to ditch some debt, another feature that may grab your attention is the 0% balance transfer offer for a generous 18 months. Just beware there is a 2% Balance Transfer fee and after the BT period comes to an end it reverts to 21.49%.

Key features:

The ANZ First credit card is your basic credit card from ANZ with an annual fee of just $30. You'll be connected via the Visa network so you can use the card wherever Visa cards are accepted in Australia or overseas. The card also comes with ANZ contactless technology meaning for purchases under $100 you can just tap and go without signing or using a PIN.

The standard interest rate is 19.74% and you can get up to 44 days on new purchases with the ANZ First. There's also a 0% balance transfer offer for 18 months (2% Balance Transfer fee) if you're looking to move over some existing debt. International transactions whether online or in person will attract a 3% foreign exchange margin.

ANZ Falcon means that you can shop with extra security and confidence as transactions get monitored around the clock for suspicious transactions.

The card comes with some standard insurances such as extended warranty and purchase security insurance which means that if you lose, break or have your goods stolen within 90 days you can have them replaced.

For the creative types you can design your own card using ANZ designmycard and additional cardholders can be added at no extra cost.

Who it's good for:

The ANZ First is a great card if you're looking for a basic credit card with plenty of value.

Any catches?

Be sure to automate those repayments or you'll be up for a $20 late payment fee. And if you're using the card to rid yourself of debt, make sure you pay that debt off before the balance transfer period ends, as any balance left over will be charged at the high cash advance rate of 21.49%.

I like ANZ because I find them reliable. If I forget to pay the interest on the due date I can always expect a friendly reminder. If I experience any problems, I can happily walk into ANZ and be confident that they would help. The only issue I find is that their interest rates are high and I find it hard at times to keep up with paying off my credit card.

I had my card used without my authorisation and reported this to ANZ bank but it was not cancelled for another 2 weeks so more money was withdrawn from my account. ANZ bank fixed the problem after I visited them for the second time but this situation was very stressful.

ANZ are very easy to deal with. I arranged to transfer my Visa debt to an interest free ANZ visa. The whole process was effortless on my part, i simply spoke to the customer service officer, and everything was done and dusted in a matter of minutes. They also helped to set up online banking for me whilst i was there. Nothing was a problem for them. Very happy with the service and the product.
