Key features

Westpac's Low Rate credit card is all about value. With a very reasonable annual fee of $59, a low 13.74% ongoing purchase interest rate, and up to 55 interest free days, this piece of plastic is certainly easy on your budget.

Westpac is also offering $200 cash-back when new Low Rate card holders spend at least $1,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days of the card being approved - an offer available until 31 March 2021!

And at the moment, new card applicants will be able to blast debt, thanks to the 0% balance transfer offer for the first 24 months (then 21.49%), available until 31 March 2021. Remember, there is a 1.00% set-up fee on the balance transfer.

You can use the card overseas or shopping online wherever Mastercard is accepted and it comes with Mastercard Tap & go functionality so for purchases under $100. All foreign transactions will have a 3% foreign exchange margin added to the Australian dollar amount.

Any catches

Remember cash advances won't get the low standard interest rate, but the much higher 21.49%. And don't forget that 1.00% fee on the balance transfer.

I have been with Westpac since I was 18 and have always loved the customer service at my local bank. They have always tried to help sort my finances and I trust their opinion.

    Don't trust any bank.

I dislike this bank because at first I thought it wanted to help us in our time of need, but now I realise that the only thing the bank/s cares about is profit.

Complex and waste of time service.

I have applied for credit card with balance transfer, it took me 6 weeks to get the card and 3 weeks after activating my card, still the application team in the Philippines can't tell me what is wrong with the process and why it hasn't happened. Absolute waste of time. Don't come close to Westpac bank.
