About Jasmine

Jasmine Gearie is a senior writer at Mozo with a focus on the home loans market. She’s particularly interested in home loan refinancing, and helping to educate readers on how they can spend less on their mortgage.

She has authored home loan research reports for Mozo, and has also written about broadband, mobile and interest rate moves at Australia’s Big Four banks. You’ll also find her decoding financial jargon on Mozo’s Instagram .

Before joining Mozo, Jasmine was a writer at TechRadar Australia, where she covered the mobile and NBN sectors for four years. She graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Communication (Journalism and Public Relations).

Money saving tip:

Always have a plan before you go out spending – whether you’re going out for groceries, filling up on fuel or buying a big-ticket item. It’s pretty easy to compare supermarket prices and find where the best deals are, and there are websites such as FuelCheck NSW to help you find the cheapest petrol in your area. A little bit of research can prevent you from spending more than necessary.

How did you get into financial services? What experience do you have?

I started as an ecommerce editor at TechRadar, where I analysed the top mobile and NBN plans on the market and helped readers understand what was best for their needs, whether that was the lowest price or the best performance.

I also tracked down shopping deals, which got me into a money-saving mindset and helped paved the way for writing about personal finance.

How do you keep up to date with the industry?

I always look forward to what Alan Kohler has to say on ABC News every night, and Evan Lucas’ commentary is so insightful and worth seeking out.

I also do plenty of reading online, particularly across the Australian Financial Review and the Sydney Morning Herald. And I have to shout out Mozo’s in-house research team – their market knowledge is unmatched.

Each day I track the home loan rate changes that come through from our database, and keep an eye on the newsrooms of the banks and government bodies such as APRA, ASIC and the RBA.

Do you have any special awards, qualifications or memberships?

I’ve completed the financial industry’s core compliance training, a 40-hour module called RG146 Generic Knowledge. I’m a graduate of the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Communication.
