Frequently asked questions about ANZ car insurance

Should I opt for the low or high excess option?

That depends on your budget and how you want to manage your insurance cover. If you opt for the low excess option, then you’ll pay higher premiums upfront, but in an emergency, you won’t have to come up with a large amount of cash.

On the other hand, if you choose a high excess, you’ll have to get your hands on that amount of money in an emergency, but you’ll pay lower premiums upfront.

How is my premium calculated?

Your premium is calculated according to the likelihood of you making a claim - the more likely it is, the more you will pay. ANZ takes into account things like the make, model and colour of your car, how and when you drive and where your car is kept to decide how at risk you are.

How can I pay my premium?

With ANZ car insurance, you can pay your premium upfront in an annual lump sum payment, or, if it would suit your budget better, you can also choose to pay your premium by the month at no extra charge.

What cover do I have in an emergency?

Your ANZ insurance doesn’t cover roadside assistance - but it does give you cover for a bunch of other things, including:

  • Emergency repairs without assessment up to a certain amount
  • Cost of towing
  • Cost of alternate transport

What optional extras can I add to my car insurance?

You may want to add extra cover to your ANZ car insurance policy for things like modifications to your car or car hire after an accident where you were at fault.

How to make a claim

When you go to make a claim over the phone (or online for QBE policy holders) then there are a few details you should make sure you have in order, so that everything goes as quick and easily as possible, including:

  • Your car insurance policy number
  • Details about your car
  • Details about what happened (time, date, location of the accident etc.)
  • Photos of the accident and the condition of the road could help your claim
  • The name and contact details of any witnesses or other drivers who were involved

ANZ Comprehensive Car Insurance

Competitive value for P-platers. Reliable company.

As someone who uses ANZ banking, it was super easy to access their comprehensive car insurance. However for non-ANZ customers, I suspect it wouldn't be as easy to navigate and set up. I am under 25 so I pay a lot more than most drivers, but ANZ still has a competitive price compared to other companies who claim to offer 'better' deals to P-platers.

I am happy with the service.

Only been insured for about one year with them. Customer service seems to be ok. I haven't made a claim yet so can't give an opinion on making a claim.

Competitive premiums and great customer service

I have never had a claim, but they have always been very prompt when I have wanted information about anything.
