I have found the bank farely reasonable & the service reasonable & would recommend it to anyone to give a go .
St George has friendly tellers and an excellent website for Australian banking. However, as a customer of over 25 years, it is rather annoying to have to pay $32 for an international bank transfer just because the online form is lacking anywhere to put a personal reference which makes it uncertain that the payee recognizes the transaction. I would like to see an official reference number section of the form.
I have just discovered that any legal documents you lodge with a branch of St George Bank cannot be retrieved by staff, nor can they tell you where they are, further when asked at a branch what they would they do with a document if lodged today they refused to answer. We have also been trying to update the address for mailing of statements for the last 2 years yet as of today they still haven't done it. Today at a branch they in fact refused to change the address unless we sent them new minutes from the governing committee, something we did 2 years ago. We supplied this 2 years ago and I am certainly not going to play their little game and supply them again. I am the Secretary of this Not-for-Profit charity/society that is accredited with the ACNC and we have almost $1 million invested with St George Bank. I will be recommending to our next committee meeting that we move all our accounts to a different bank. I have also discovered that the bank refuses to give out any information of forms that you have lodged with a branch unless we pay for our solicitor to send a legal letter to the bank. What an absolute outrage. For those interested the email address for this is groupsubpoenas@westpac.com.au
I have banked with St George Bank Since it first started. Originally I opened my first bank account at 15, with Advanced Bank, when i started my first job. In my 20s they changed to St George Bank. St George Bank has looked after myself and my money for aprx 45years and I have never been let down or overcharged. I couldnt think of a reason to ever change.
They did not help me & still waiting for a call back after 4 weeks
I find the St George banking App simple and easy to use. Super easy check my balance, transfer funds and pay bills. Face to face Customer Service at my local branch is always a great customer experience. Super helpful staff who always have the answers to my banking questions. I found it so easy to exchange some old notes (cash) I had, to new notes, where other banks refused to take them or advised the cash would need to be sent off to be verified, taking up to 3 months! St George changed the cash on the spot! When I purchased my first home, St George organised loan approval very quickly and when I applied for a bridging loan, they again, arranged everything with no fuss at all. Nothing is ever too hard at St George Bank.
St. George was easy to deal with when we swapped over our home loan and set up new banks accounts. Their banking app is also great
I have found St.George Bank's Complete Freedom account to be quite beneficial for day-to-day banking, especially for anyone looking for a straightforward, no-fuss option. The bank offers a blend of accessible customer service, reasonable pricing, and solid features. Pros: No Monthly Fees: One of the major pros is the absence of a monthly account-keeping fee if you meet certain criteria, such as depositing $2000 or more per month. This is great for anyone with a regular income. Good ATM Network: St.George has an extensive ATM network, and you can also use ATMs from Westpac and Bank of Melbourne without fees. Mobile App: Their mobile banking app is intuitive and offers a wide range of functionalities, like easy transfers, bill payments, and managing direct debits. Customer Service: I've had positive experiences with their customer service, particularly with phone support, which is generally prompt and helpful. Convenience: With easy integration into digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay, it’s convenient for mobile transactions. Cons: Interest Rates: Like many transaction accounts, the Complete Freedom account doesn’t offer any interest on your balance, which may be a downside for those looking to grow their savings. Branch Accessibility: St.George doesn't have as many branches as some of the larger banks like Commonwealth or ANZ, which may make in-person banking a bit less convenient depending on your location. Fees on International Transactions: While local ATM use is free within the network, international transaction fees can be relatively high, so it's not the best option for those frequently travelling overseas. Pricing: (No monthly fees if criteria are met, but fees can add up with international use) Product Features: (Basic features, no interest, but good digital tools) Customer Service: (Generally reliable and responsive) Convenience: (Great digital tools, but fewer branches than big banks) Trust: 4/5 (St.George is part of Westpac, so it’s a trusted institution) Overall Rating: 8/10 I recommend the St.George Complete Freedom account for anyone seeking a no-nonsense everyday transaction account with solid digital tools and minimal fees if you meet the account conditions. However, if you're looking for a high-interest savings option or frequently need international banking services, this account might not be the best fit.
I have been with St George Bank since it started. I have so much confidence in their security. In 2014 I went to Hawaii, and advised the bank when my stay dates. I let them know when I returned home. Nearly one year later, I had a call from St George Bank, asking me if I was shopping in shop X spending $100 U.S. dollars. I said no, they said fraud was being committed they rejected the sale in Hawaii. Although I had to go to a bank and get a new card, they fast tracked the process. I was do grateful for the bank. I could write more positive experiences with St George but I think the one above is powerful.
Absolutely love St George bank!!! They have never been bad to me only ever amazing! Using the various ATMs is easy, more simple than using ATMs like westpac I find. Internet banking is also simple and easy especially for new and elderly customers. I’ve been with St George for about 11 years now and would recommend them every time. The only con is when the bank servers are down and you can’t get into your account to transfer funds. But that rarely happens. Pros are that it’s easy to transfer money from account to account and to transfer through different banks. It’s quick to send and receive money through St George. They always send regular updates through email and text so you know it’s not a scammer and if necessary they will send a letter too. Every month they send fund updates to you as well to let you know how well you are going with your finances. It’s easy to see into your accounts too online as when you get into your account you can see what you’ve spent, where you’ve spent it, what you’ve received and who or what sent it to you. St Goethe is extremely trustworthy and I recommend them to anyone who finds banking and online banking difficult.
