About St.George Bank

It’s safe to say many Australians have heard of or used St.George Bank. As one of our country’s largest retail banks and a member of the Westpac Group since 2008, St.George Bank has been offering products like everyday transaction accounts, savings accounts, home loans and personal loans to its customers for almost three decades.

Despite its long history, St.George has proven strong on the innovations front, snatching up a 2021 Mozo Experts Choice Award for Excellent Banking App. It’s also the parent company of two other Excellent Banking App award winners this year, BankSA and Bank of Melbourne.

What does the St.George app do?

The St.George app is all about giving customers as much banking functionality as possible, and its extensive selection of features certainly makes it one of the most impressive this year. With its app, you can view your balance and recent transactions without logging in, set a range of alerts, withdraw cardless cash from any branch ATM and track your monthly spending. Plus, access many more functions that make managing your money much easier.

Features we love

The St.George app covers a lot of ground with its wide range of features, so we’ve handpicked and highlighted a few that especially stood out to us.

First up, the St.George app comes with the handy option to set up seven types of alerts. Depending on your needs, you can choose to have push notifications for deposits or withdrawals, get reminders for upcoming credit card repayments, receive updates on your daily balance, get a nudge when your balance is low, or be warned when a debit dishonour occurs. These alerts will ‘pop up’ on your mobile phone, or you can also opt for SMS or email alerts.

Another standout feature is its spend tracker, which groups your expenses into categories so you know how you’ve been spending money over the month. This can act as a good budgeting tool and, if you want to dig even deeper, you can tap on each category to view subcategories.

The St.George app also offers some great security features. For one, you can log in faster using your fingerprint, and Face ID is available as well if you’re an iPhone X user. Plus if you lose your card or have it stolen, you can lock your card for up to 15 days. Before travelling abroad, you also have the ability to notify St.George of the overseas trip in-app so your overseas transactions don't get blocked for security reasons.

Then there’s the expense splitter - a nifty feature if you’re usually the one who pays for the group, whether it’s for an AirBnB rental or household bills. This lets you keep track of who owes you money, and you can also send SMS reminders to friends or flatmates who have yet to transfer their portion.

As for Apple Watch users, you’ll be pleased to know that St.George is one of the few apps assessed in the 2021 Mozo Experts Choice Awards to offer smartwatch integration. What this means is you can link your St.George bank account to your wearable and view your balance or find the nearest ATM or branch, even if you don’t have your phone on hand.

Besides these features, the St.George app also has a bunch of other handy features up its sleeve:

  • You can connect your account to Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and PayID
  • You can withdraw cash without your card from any network ATM (St.George, BankSA, Bank of Melbourne or Westpac) - just bear in mind there's a $500 daily limit or $1,000 weekly limit
  • You can reach out to the customer support team via the app, helping you skip the phone queue and the hassle of answering security questions
  • You can apply for a new transaction card in-app or sign up as a new customer via the app.

We’re not so hot on…

While smartwatch wearers will have some capabilities with the St.George app, they won’t be able to do other things, like make payments with Garmin Pay or Fitbit Pay.
