The votes are in, and Aussies simply love Toyotas. Various Toyota models have once again dominated the last year of new car sales in Australia.

Having these three Toyota models rank so highly shows the variety of Australians looking for new cars. You might be after a zippy Corolla for everyday city driving, looking for a family-friendly ride like a RAV4 for roomy road trips, or in the market for a Hilux to meet your utility vehicle needs while maintaining cruising comfort.

What might impact your Toyota insurance costs?

Like insurance policies for other vehicle makes and models, there are a range of factors influencing your Toyota car insurance quote. This can include:

Your age. Generally, young or inexperienced drivers will be charged a higher premium, as they are statistically riskier drivers and thus more likely to potentially make a car insurance claim.

Your gender. Similarly, male drivers are usually seen as riskier on the roads than their female counterparts, and will be hit with a slightly higher premium.

Your postcode. Where you live can impact your Toyota car insurance quote, as different states, cities and even suburbs can have very different road crash statistics and crime levels and thus be seen as riskier places to drive and park your car.

Your car’s colour. It may sound superficial, but the colour of your car can affect your insurance premium. This comes down to things like colour influencing visibility and thus impacting crash risk, or the probability that a certain colour car might be stolen.

So, are Toyotas expensive to insure?

In the scheme of things, you may be able to find relatively affordable car insurance for Toyotas in Australia. Mozo’s 2020 Car Insurance Report found the national average cost of comprehensive car insurance was $952.

For comparison, if you were to find an average within the annual price ranges of car insurance for the Toyota models they would be:

  • $918 for Toyota Corolla car insurance
  • $993 for Toyota Camry car insurance
  • $1,363 for Toyota Hilux car insurance
  • $974 for Toyota RAV4 car insurance

At the end of the day, the best insurance for a Toyota really depends on what kind of driver you are and various factors about your car like what model it is, its age, if you’ve modified it in any way, the condition it’s in and its overall value.
