If you love the movies, travelling or online shopping and want to do it all for free, the HSBC Rewards Plus Program might be right up your alley.
This rewards program allows HSBC credit card customers to collect points for every dollar they spend, which can then be redeemed for rewards. The Program has a large variety of freebies on offer, including travel perks, cashback, tech products and tickets to the theme park, so if you love freebies when you spend, this could be a rewards program for you.
Depending on the HSBC credit card you’re using and whether you’re making a domestic or international purchase, you could be earning up to 2 points for every $1 spent on your rewards card. But keep in mind that points on this rewards program expire after 36 months and there’s also a points cap every month, so you may have to be a bit strategic about how you’re earning and redeeming those points.
There are three credit cards eligible for the HSBC Rewards Plus Program.
Premier World Mastercard (Rewards Plus)
Platinum Credit Card
Low Rate Credit Card
As long as your credit card is linked to the HSBC Rewards Plus Program, you’ll be able to start earning points.
There are also some HSBC rewards credit cards linked directly to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, which might be just the ticket if you’re a big fan of Qantas and know that’s where you’ll be using your points. If that sounds like what you’re after, check out the full list of HSBC credit cards.
The HSBC Low Rate Credit Card does not qualify for this program.
There’s something for everyone in the HSBC Rewards Plus Program, which offers a broad range of perks including:
Spend, spend, spend! You earn points for each eligible spend on your HSBC rewards cards, but keep in mind that the number of points you earn varies depending on which HSBC credit card you have:
You can check your points balance on your credit card statement.
It’s easy! Redeem your points online by logging in to your HSBC Reward Plus account and clicking on ‘My Rewards’ or ‘Redeem your rewards’ to begin the request process.
You can also redeem points over the phone by calling HSBC on 132 152 for Classic and Platinum card holders or 1300 301 168 for Premier card holders.
Once redeemed, most rewards should arrive in 14 days but allow up to 28 days to receive your reward.
Yes, all HSBC Rewards Plus points expire 36 months after issue. You’ll receive a reminder in your credit card statement when your points are about to be cancelled.
Yes, there is a 10,000 points cap per statement cycle. Combined with the points expiration date, that means you’ll want to be a little bit strategic when it comes to stacking up a pile of points. To stay under the points cap, big spenders might need to spread their spending out a bit. On the other hand, if you’ve got a big points goal in mind, make sure you’re spending enough to reach it before your points start expiring.
While you can earn points on most everyday purchases, you will not earn any points on interest free and other promotions, balance transfers, cash transfers, business expenses, cash advances, fees and charges, disputed transactions, BPAY, and any government fee or charge.
No, joining the HSBC Rewards Plus program doesn’t cost any additional fees. But keep in mind that most of the cards do come with annual fees and generally, the higher the points earning power, the higher the fee will be. Make sure that the annual fee isn’t outweighing the value of the points and freebies on offer.
You must earn a minimum of $40,000 per year to apply for the HSBC Platinum Credit Card.
If you’re keen to get your hands on the HSBC Premier World Mastercard, it gets a bit trickier. To apply, you must have:
The HSBC Premier World Mastercard also requires you to maintain an HSBC Premier Cash Mana
Well, that all depends on what kind of freebies you’re after, as well as your spending style. You can check out how HSBC rewards cards stack up against others by checking out our rewards card comparison tool.
