Joining the HSBC Rewards Plus Program? Here’s what you need to know…

If you love the movies, travelling or online shopping and want to do it all for free, the HSBC Rewards Plus Program might be right up your alley.

This rewards program allows HSBC credit card customers to collect points for every dollar they spend, which can then be redeemed for rewards. The Program has a large variety of freebies on offer, including travel perks, cashback, tech products and tickets to the theme park, so if you love freebies when you spend, this could be a rewards program for you.

Depending on the HSBC credit card you’re using and whether you’re making a domestic or international purchase, you could be earning up to 2 points for every $1 spent on your rewards card. But keep in mind that points on this rewards program expire after 36 months and there’s also a points cap every month, so you may have to be a bit strategic about how you’re earning and redeeming those points.

Credit cards eligible for earning rewards points with HSBC

There are three credit cards eligible for the HSBC Rewards Plus Program.

As long as your credit card is linked to the HSBC Rewards Plus Program, you’ll be able to start earning points.

There are also some HSBC rewards credit cards linked directly to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, which might be just the ticket if you’re a big fan of Qantas and know that’s where you’ll be using your points. If that sounds like what you’re after, check out the full list of HSBC credit cards.

The HSBC Low Rate Credit Card does not qualify for this program.

The types of rewards available to HSBC spenders

There’s something for everyone in the HSBC Rewards Plus Program, which offers a broad range of perks including:

  • Travel - If travel is the name of the game, then HSBC Rewards include gift cards to cover your travel needs including flights and accommodation. HSBC Premier and Platinum cardholders are also able to convert their rewards points into Velocity Frequent Flyer points for more travel perks, while Premier cardholders can also cash in points for Asia Miles and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles.
  • Shopping - Keen for a bit of retail therapy? HSBC has an online catalogue with a wide selection of products including smartphones, computers, kitchen appliances and wine. But make sure you’re having the items delivered to an Australian address, as they can’t be sent overseas.
  • Cashback - If you can’t decide on a reward yet, there’s an option to choose from $25, $50 and $100 cashbacks, so you can use your points to buy basically whatever you want. All cashbacks are credited directly to your HSBC credit card.
