Creative art graduates have spoken of the career boost that the ArtStart grant scheme has given them.

West Melbourne resident Andrew Brooks, who was awarded $10,000 under the scheme, said the grant had helped him take his first steps in the music industry.

"It's definitely a huge advantage," he told the Melbourne Leader.

"I'm building a website to help start networking."

Mr Brooks added that he was aiming to use some of the money to travel to Berlin for mentoring and workshops.

The comments came as it was reported that applications for the next batch of ArtStart grants are now open for creative art graduates.

According to the newspaper, the scheme encourages young Australians to compare student finances and plan for the future, with a maximum of $10,000 available to people who have graduated from an accredited training scheme in the past three years.

The last round of ArtStart awards saw over 100 Australians pick up grants totalling more than $1 million.
