New app can help foreign students remain frugal

Australia is still attracting large numbers of international students thanks to its fine selection of top universities.

Moving to a new part of the world can be very daunting and youngsters need all the help they can get to settle in.

Obviously money is tight for university students, so knowing the best (and cheapest) places to eat, drink, shop and socialise is vital.

A new app released by Insider Publishing has been launched to help overseas students familiarise themselves with cities like Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane.

By giving recommendations and advice to smartphone users, developers of the application are hopeful that people's student bank accounts will not take such a battering.

Managing director at Insider Publishing James Martin believes academics do not get enough help when they first arrive down under.

"International students mostly get given plain 'survival' info when they arrive and nothing about getting the most out of their new city, on their terms," he remarked.
