If you’re after a rewards credit card that comes with a few retail perks and gives you the freedom to choose between Membership Rewards or Qantas Frequent Flyer program then this piece of plastic could be the perfect fit for your wallet. With the David Jones American Express Card, you’ll get up to 44 days interest free and earn as many as 3 Membership Reward Points per dollar spent at a host of major Aussie retailers. You can also earn $200 back when you apply online by 13 July 2022, are approved and spend $1,500 outside David Jones on your new Card within the first 3 months. Available to new David Jones American Express Card Members only.
This rewards card comes with a pretty tasty introductory offer of $200 cash back when you apply online by 13 July 2022, are approved and spend $1,500 outside David Jones on your new Card within the first 3 months. Available to new David Jones American Express Card Members only.
As for points, you can choose for yours to go towards either American Express’ Membership Rewards program or Qantas’ Frequent Flyer program.
On the Membership Rewards program, you’ll be rewarded with 3 Reward Points per dollar spent at major Aussie supermarkets such as Woolworths, Coles and IGA and at a range of petrol stations such as BP, Caltex and Shell as well as 2 points per dollar spent at David Jones and 1 point everywhere else.
If travel is more your thing and you opt for the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program you’ll be earning 0.5 Qantas Points per every Reward Point which means you’ll be earning 1.5 Qantas Points per dollar spent at those same major supermarkets and petrol stations, 1 Membership Reward Points per dollar spent at David Jones and 0.5 everywhere else.
With the David Jones American Express card your points are uncapped so you can spend as much as you like each month and they’ll also never expire. Be mindful that you’ll be asked to stump up $99 per year for using this card, but you’ll be receiving neat privileges such as card purchase cover and SMS account alerts.
To help save on interest, cardholders will have a choice of 12 months interest free with no deposit when you spend $500 or more on your card, in one transaction; or 60 months Interest Free with no deposit when you spend $1,000 or more on your card, in one transaction, across all departments in store or online at David Jones.
And thanks to the Three Months Pay Later Option, cardholders can defer payments for 3 months when they spend $50 or more on the card, in one transaction, across all departments in store or online at David Jones.
And even though the David Jones American Express Card comes with a 20.74% purchase interest rate, you’ll get up to 44 days interest free if you pay your balance in full each month.
The David Jones American Express Card is ideal for big spenders, particularly for those who often shop at David Jones. In addition to earning up to 3 Membership Reward Points per dollar spent in-store you’ll also have access to a host of exclusive in-store benefits.
Aside from the $99 annual card fee, you’ll also need to be aware of the $30 late payment fee. You’ll also need an annual income of $40,000, be over the age of 18 and be an Australian citizen or permanent resident to be eligible.

To work out the "Rewards value minus fees" in our Rewards Revealer we:
calculate how many points you'd get each year,
figure out how many flights or gift cards or cashback credits you could get for those points,
work out what that's actually worth to you,
take off the annual fee you'd pay.
More details:
Our calculations are designed to help you compare the value of different rewards schemes. To do this, we've looked at earning a one-way Sydney-Melbourne flight excluding taxes and charges, a return Sydney-London flight excluding taxes and charges, a $100 shopping Gift Card and $100 cashback. Most cards will also offer other rewards, which may be worth more or less than the ones we've shown.
We have made no allowance for bonus points for using your card at specific merchants, introductory offers or special offers. We have not assigned any value to instant discounts, insurances, ticketing and concierge services or other such benefits.
Rewards value calculations do not take credit card interest into account. If you do not pay off your card each month you may be better off looking for a card based on interest rates than on the value of rewards.
In products that have more than one card, a different mix of spend between American Express / Visa / Mastercard will give different results. Mozo's Rewards Revealer lets you choose the mix based on the way you would use such a product, and gives you tailored results.
We assume flights purchased with airline points are 'classic' or 'reward' economy seats with restricted seat availability. 'Any seat' rewards will probably cost more.
To compare the value of flight rewards, we sample online retail flight prices once a quarter based on the average price on a Wednesday 3 months in advance but outside NSW school holidays. For domestic flights we take the lowest available fare from each flight on that day from Qantas Red e-deal, Virgin Australia Saver including baggage and Jetstar Starter including baggage. We calculate the average price excluding taxes and surcharges for each airline, and also the average across all airlines (which we use when rewards are travel agent vouchers). For international flights, we take the lowest available fares on that same Wednesday from each of Qantas, Emirates, Malaysian, Etihad, Singapore, Cathay Pacific and Thai, assuming a return flight 2 weeks later, calculate the average price before taxes and surcharges and use this as our assumed cost of a flight on any airline.
Shopping rewards are based on $100 gift cards from a major national department store.
We make every effort to ensure our calculations are correct and up to date but make no guarantees.

This is the worst card I have ever used - so confusing - trying to navigate the website is the first problem. Trying to phone for assistance was totally frustrating as the automated service would not recognise my card - even though I entered the number 5 times. Attempting to view my purchases online is another confusing episode of website navigation. No transparency. No care.

Worst credit card experience I have ever had. Statements are confusing and it was supposed to be an interest free plan from David Jones with was just overcomplicated and confusing by Amex with a terrible customer experience and not able to properly explain their own statements. Do not bother despite the good “interest free” sales push from David Jones, it’s not worth the hassle.

So a David Jones salesman pestered me into enrolling into this card and rewards program: You'll get a 50$ voucher, 100$annual fees, worth it etc. Special events and what not was promised. 50$ voucher expired in 45 days I couldn't use. Forced myself into using a highly surcharged American Express. So useless is this credit card that I kept it home. There was a $15 subscription to keep it alive. 5th and 6th Month I missed this payment (owing largely to the awful nature of the card itself, it was erased from my memory). Instead of informing me, they sent a letter giving me 6 days to pay and a credit agency would be holding this information.
