Afterpay coming to Myer: Aussies can buy now, pay later

Retail payment platform Afterpay, which allows shoppers to buy now and pay later, has recently announced an exciting new partnership that will see it introduced at Myer, Australia’s largest department store.

Afterpay will be rolled out on the Myer online store from May this year, in an agreement which will initially last two years. The company currently has over half a million users and is changing the way Aussies shop, giving them more options for managing their budget and working with a big retailer like Myer means even more shoppers are likely to use the innovative platform.

“The partnership with Myer will give customers even greater choice over their Afterpay purchases,” Afterpay Managing Director Nick Molnar said.

He said the platform is now used by, “over 500,000 active customers and over 3,100 retailers.”

So far, millennials - who balance spending with price consciousness and are quick to adapt to new technologies - have been the driving force behind Afterpay’s customer-base. But as the company expands, more and more Aussies from older generations like Baby Boomers and Gen X are embracing the service.

Myer will join a list of retailers offering Afterpay that includes Telstra, Booktopia, 2XU, Running Bare, Tarocash and Alannah Hill. Some favourite brands such as Veronika Maine and Dion Lee have even introduced Afterpay in their brick and mortar stores.
