One of the leading integrated energy companies in the country, AGL is also the largest ASX listed owner, operator and developer of renewable energy generation in Australia.
AGL provides electricity related products and services for residents as well as small businesses across NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. If you’re looking for energy plans in one of these states, you may be eligible to apply to AGL for your energy needs.
AGL provides different electricity plans as well as packages bundled with both electricity and gas products. You can pick from multiple deals, which come with money-saving options such as discounts for paying on time or for direct debits. It also pays to be digital savvy because you could get a once-off credit for signing up online. The plans can vary subject to the duration you sign up for and if you prefer fixed or variable rates.
If you’ve been thinking of switching to solar energy, you can look at AGL Solar as a solution for your home. Their solar power systems are tailored to suit your household needs and lifestyle. You can call an energy expert at AGL and they will help you find a plan that’s best for you.
AGL offers multiple payment options including direct debit, BPAY, Credit Card and PayPal. In case you don’t want to pay your bill using online or phone banking, you can mail a cheque or money order to AGL, or go to a post office to make the payment in person. Watch out for the different concessions and rebates available for different states. For example, there’s the Electricity Concession in Queensland and the Family Energy Rebate in NSW. Like any other concessions, these are subject to change, so you need to check the eligibility criteria to see who qualifies for these.
You can monitor the amount of energy you use with My AGL IQ®, which is a free tool developed by AGL Australia. Once you’ve completed your home profile, you can set up an energy savings goal and look for tips tailored to your requirements.
If you want to switch to AGL for your electricity needs, the process is fairly simple and straightforward. You will be required to provide a form of personal identification such as your driver’s license, Medicare card or passport along with a valid email address, and you should be able to sign up for an AGL account.
If you’re an existing AGL customer who is moving home, you can arrange for your electricity connection to be moved online or over the phone. You can call AGL’s helpline any time of the day all through the week. They even have a separate number for hearing impaired customers. But do keep in mind that you’ll need to give a notice of one business day as well as safe access to the electricity meter before your connection can be moved. Do check on the eligibility criteria for moving your electricity connection in specific regional locations.

AGL has very bad customer service, long hold times, confusing billing and high prices. I do not recommend AGL
They are reliable and very good with pricing of my bills.
AGL sign up process was easy. App is useful for energy usage insights on the go. Bills are easy to read. Customer chat is responsive but that's where I then draw the line. I no longer trust AGL. When I reached out to their customer support for financial support telling them that the existing payment plan was unsustainable they instead offered me a payment plan at a higher rate. Then I enquired about a change of plan. They explicitly told me that their new Netflix plan was cheaper. Since they said it was cheaper I agreed to move to it. I wish I had paid more attention because it turns out that it's not cheaper at all. Their new rate was +2c more for general, +3c for demand and +10c for supply. Then they're also charging a card payment processing fee and whatever else they feel they can scab off customers and then add a Netflix plan on top. So literally every rate was more expensive, they tried to push me to a more unaffordable payment agreement and offered me absolutely nothing. When I told them of my reasons for asking for support and so on they offered to mail me forms for a hardship program (yes, mail - snail mail, post, not email). They're just cold hearted salesmen with no customer service skills or empathy. I'm switching retailers, I don't trust AGL anymore.
AGL have always been a great energy provider. I feel confident in them as they have been around for a long time and are local. When I phone with any questions, they answer in a timely manner - not on hold for long minutes or hours. Their app is user friendly and helps answer many of the smaller queries I have at times.
I love the fact that AGL help you stay connected with your electricity, if you need help all you have to do is ring them and discuss what you can do. And because of this, I am now in credit with my electric bill!
With the increasing number of electronics we use through the day and rising energy prices, it’s crucial to choose an efficient electricity plan. Use Mozo’s user-friendly energy comparison tool to compare AGL with other electricity providers that are available in your area.
