overall good energy provider but slow service
Deceptive company clearly set up to: 1. Lure the new customer with an attractive plan and then 2. Rapidly increase plan costs (within 1 month of sign-up!) an unreasonable amount (i.e. in my case rise of single rate from 14 cper kWhr to 30c per KWhr for peak and 21c for shoulder. 3. Hoping that customer will not realise or be fatigued with the shopping around & changing provider process and hence passively not complain, and continue the plan. Which is a completely unreasonable rip-off. The claim that it reflects market rises in power costs is laughable. Going back to Origin that forms market benchmark (supposedly expensive) sees the rate being cheaper than when i was them 3 months ago. Half the price of the Elysian new plan price hike!
I signed up with Elysian Energy after transferring from Red Energy three months ago as Red was becoming too expensive. I found Elysian to offer a better deal in terms of rates however I quickly found their service to be dysfunctional and disorganised.
Power always on. Price originally made sense for our usage, but then after one month of higher than usual usage, they switched the account to a different tier. That saved us money - yay! Thanks. But then they kept us at the higher tier even though usage went back to usual following - boo! Just moved house and changed over to the embedded supplier. Went to Elysian's website to disconnect/denergise the service. Followed the link to find that it can only be done by phone. Several days and several calls and several hours of being on hold and several times of requesting a call back, finally got to speak to a live human - whew! This was three days after the originally desired disconnect date (long after vacating the old place, end of lease cleaning, etc...). At first was told it could be disconnected within 24 hours because it's a smart meter. Then told that no, it will not be for another 5 days. All the while I assume we are on the hook for connection and usage charges since they could not manage to answer the phone a week earlier.
This supplier failed to tell me I had to pay the package price in advance, so they withheld $35 from me when I needed to go to a higher usage package.
