Having started out its operations in February 2004 under the name Victoria Electricity, Lumo Energy has grown into an energy retailer that now provides electricity, gas and renewable energy solutions to about 500,000 customers in Australia.
Lumo Energy sells electricity in Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. If you’re looking for electricity plans in one of these states, you may be eligible to apply to Lumo Energy.
Lumo Energy provides a number of electricity plans to choose from. The different deal options will depend on:
For all those consumers who want to support and encourage the use of renewable electricity in Australia, Lumo Energy has an electricity plan that’ll help you make an environment-friendly choice. If you decide to go with this plan, an equivalent of 10% of your electricity consumption will be derived from government accredited renewable energy and fed back into the grid.
What if your electricity bill could bring you closer to your next holiday? Well, it’s actually possible if you sign up for an electricity plan with Lumo Energy. They’ve partnered with Virgin Australia's Velocity Frequent Flyer program to offer a package which not only gets you 10,000 Velocity Points when you sign up, it also gives you 6 points for every dollar that you spend with Lumo. The terms are subject to change so don’t forget to check on the specifications when you decide to sign up.
Lumo recognises that customers facing a financially difficult situation could find it challenging to pay their electricity bill. To help such customers, Lumo has an Energy Account Support and Enquiries (EASE) team, which provides access to financial services and support options for your account. If you feel you need help to your energy bills, you can call the EASE team to understand the eligibility criteria and application procedure.
If you sign up to some specific plans like Lumo Advantage, Lumo Velocity or Lumo Life package, you also automatically get signed up to Lumo’s exclusive shopping program called Advantage Online. This facility gives you access to multiple discounts on gift cards, movie tickets and even holiday packages.
You won’t have to worry about how to pay your electricity bill with Lumo Energy. You can choose from many options such as direct debit, BPAY, Credit Card and Centrepay. If you don’t want to deal with online or phone banking then you can also mail your cheque or go over to any Australia Post outlet to pay up in person.
If you’re a new customer who is looking to switch their household’s electricity plan to Lumo Energy, you can easily arrange for the transfer. All you need to do is fill out a form online and someone from Lumo will get back to you within one business day. You also have the option of calling them directly to understand the different plans and then ask for the switch.
Existing customers can easily move their electricity plan with Lumo Energy when they are changing addresses as long as Lumo provides electricity in that area. If you are moving in five or more business days’ time you can request for a transfer online or over the phone. But if you can’t wait for five days and need the move to take place more urgently, you’ll need to call to make sure your connection has been sorted before you move into your new home. You can call Lumo’s customer service team anytime from Monday to Friday, between 8.30 am and 7 pm.

My supplier gives a very good price followed by a % decrease on used electricity and 60 c per unit on solar power they also review any offer given by other suppliers. I have been with them for many years and have had good customer service.
I like Lumo Energy because they have an Australian Call Centre and are Australian owned. I also like the very good customer service and their reasonable prices for gas and electricity. They have a good website where you can get a lot of information on your usage. I have not had reason to telephone them and complain. The gas and electricity supply has been good.
In terms of energy prices and provision, I'm very pleased with Lumo Energy. They give a very healthy discount for on-time payment of bills. An easy way to achieve this discount every bill time, is to pay by instalments (Direct Debit) or, as I do, pay a set amount each fortnight (two weeks) to Lumo. This amount roles over and basically covers the bill when it comes in every 3 months or so. Easy to set this up, and stay ahead of the game, to get a really good discount for being all paid up! It really help manage budgeting. I have had no real issues with power supply at all. Now, they do supply a card which was promised to deliver some discounts on use at cinema, for purchase of tickets etc. But the only complaint - if you want to call it that - is that I've yet to see any discounts for anything, using this card. Nobody I've shown the card to, seems to know about any discounts available to customers using the Lumo card. So that's a little disappointing, but other than that, no complaints at all.
If you’ve never switched your electricity provider, chances are, you might just find a way cheaper plan out there than the one you picked a long time ago. To find out if you can save on your electricity plan, head on over to Mozo's energy comparison tool.
