Origin Energy offers an extensive range of electricity plans that cater to the energy needs of residential customers as well as businesses. You have the option to choose an individual electricity plan or a dual energy service. The rates and discounts in an Origin Energy plan depend on where you live and the energy plan you choose.
Origin’s electricity plans have several attractive discounts including a pay on time discount and a guaranteed discount when you have your plan for 12 months. There is also a fixed rate plan available where you can fix your electricity usage and supply charges for up to two years, but you’ll need to check whether this plan is available in your state. And should you need to change your electricity plan in the future, you’ll have the flexibility to do so because Origin’s plans don’t have any exit fees.
If you’re looking for an environmentally-friendly electricity option, Origin’s GreenPower electricity can be added to your plan at any time. Choose either 25%, 50% or 100% of your total electricity usage and Origin will purchase an equivalent amount of electricity from accredited renewable resources such as wind turbines and solar panels. This will then be added to the national electricity grid on your behalf.
You can choose from multiple payment options with an Origin Energy plan such as credit card, direct debit and BPAY. If you’re not digitally-savvy, you can pay your bill via a cheque or money order or in person at the post office. Those receiving payments from Centrelink have the added option of using Centrepay.
By setting up an Easipay payment plan you can choose to pay your bill in installments on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. You can leave the math to Origin which will calculate how much your installments should be by averaging how much energy you’ve used over the past 12 months.
The Predictable Plan aims to put an end to nasty bill surprises by letting you to pay a fixed amount for your electricity usage for a period of 12 months no matter how much power you use. The plan also comes with green energy options. You can choose to pay this fixed amount every month or fortnightly.
Opt for an online Origin account and you can manage your energy bills from the comfort of your couch. You’ll also be able to track your energy usage history to determine which appliances use the most energy and access customised energy savings tips for your home.
There are a number of concessions and rebates valid for different states such as the Low Income Household Rebate in NSW and the Medical Cooling Concession in Victoria.You can apply for a concession via your online Origin Energy account or fill in the concession card form.
If you’re experiencing temporary or long term financial hardship and struggling to pay your electricity bills, you can opt to join Origin’s Power On Program. As a member of this program, you’ll receive access to information and bill payment assistance options such as flexible payment plans and concession and rebate assistance to help you get back on track with managing your bills.
With a simple online application form, you can make the switch to Origin Energy for your electricity needs. If you’re unsure about any stage in the application process, Origin’s customer support have extended call centre hours which now include weeknights and Saturdays. You can even request a call back from an Origin Energy agent by providing your phone number and area code.
While moving homes can be stressful, Origin Energy has taken the stress out of transferring your electricity services to your new address. You’ll just need to fill up an online form providing information of your new address, primary contact details and the date you want your electricity to be connected, and you’ll be sorted. You can also call their customer support team to get your account transferred. Just remember that they do generally need three business days to arrange for the move.

We have been customers with Origin for over twenty years. I call them every year and have been offered a very competitive rate each time. We used Origin to install our Solar System on our house. We are waiting for our new apartment to be completed and will use Origin again. Very pleased with the customer service and would recommend them.
I have always been with Origin and have not had any problems, other than rising costs per quarter which is the case with all providers. I do not agree with all the green energy as many farmlands are ruined and the panels, when broken or past use by date, are toxic to the environment. Wind farms are equally bad as as they quickly interfere with with animal and marine life energy fields, stunning marine life and also toxic when broken.
They changed our old electricity meter to a new digital meter. We received our first bill of $400 after that. We never paid our electricity bill this high. We didn't even use the heater just to see how much it would be. I think this new digital meters runs too fast.
