Owned by Snowy Hydro, Red Energy has been servicing the energy needs of customers across Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales for more than a decade.
At present, Red Energy gas plans are exclusively available to residential customers living in Victoria. If you are a resident of the Garden State who is looking for a competitive gas package, you may be eligible to sign up with Red Energy.
Red Energy gas is only available to Victorian residents in a package with its electricity services. Red Energy dual fuel packages have money saving options such as discounts for both the gas and electricity components of your energy bill when you pay on time. You also have the choice to opt for a fixed term contract which will safeguard you against any rates increases on your gas service for a two-year Fixed Benefit Period. However there is an early termination fee to consider with the fixed plan.
You can add 100% GreenPower to the electricity component of your Red Energy plan in NSW. In doing so, you’ll be contributing a percentage of accredited renewable electricity to the national electricity grid and supporting sustainable energy generation in Australia.
With Red Energy’s Rewards program, you can save on your everyday spending from discounts on dining out and petrol to movie tickets and groceries - over $1500 worth. Simply make the switch to Red Energy on a plan that has a Fixed Benefit Period and you’ll automatically be issued with a Rewards membership card and online account access.
Red Energy allows its customers the flexibility to choose from an extensive range of payment options including direct debit, credit card and BPAY. If you receive Centrelink support payments, you’ll also have the added convenience of using Centrepay. If you prefer an offline payment method, you can mail a cheque to Red Energy or pay in person at your local Australia Post outlet.
Is paying your gas bill in one hit leaving you cash strapped at the end of the quarter? You can spread out your bill payments with Red Energy’s Even Pay option. When you sign up for Even Pay, Red Energy will average out your payments so you’ll always pay the same amount with your choice of weekly, fortnightly or monthly installments. Plus, you can even choose a payment date that matches your own pay cycle to help you manage your finances better. You can sign up for Even Pay by calling Red Energy’s customer service team.
There are plenty of state based energy concessions and rebates you may be eligible for to help you manage payment of your gas bill.
You’ll only be able to switch to a Red Energy gas plan if you also switch across your electricity service as gas is only available as part of a dual fuel package. But switching can be easily done online or over the phone. You will be required to provide your personal details, address and some form of identification so have your driver’s license or passport handy.
If you are moving house you can easily connect your gas, electricity as well as other utility services like water and pay TV all in one go using Red Energy’s free Red2Move service. Simply enter your postcode, pick the service providers you want and fill in your details. You will receive a call back from the service providers, including Red Energy, to confirm your connection.
Keep in mind, Red Energy requires at least three business days notice before your expected moving date to connect your new gas and electricity service, and other utility providers may have similar requirements (i.e. water, telecommunications). You will not be charged to use the Red2Move service but there may be connection fees from the providers you have selected.
The Mozo communicty has rated Red Energy products and services on different specifications ranging from pricing and bill clarity to customer satisfaction and green energy.
Check out how Red Energy customers rated their gas services on a range of different specifications including pricing, bill clarity, customer satisfaction and green energy. Here’s a summary of the ratings over the past 12 months, and some recent customer reviews for you to read.
Red Energy is a decent provider in the sense that pricing is fairly reasonable and they are very literal in terms of bill formats The only con is that they can be unreasonable. A main issue I found with them was an inability to be more understanding when I needed some more flexibility or leniency when it came to financial hardships that arose unexpectedly and were out of my control, COVID-19 for example.
Customer service is the most important aspect of any field, especially in a market where you’re not buying anything tangible. My provider Red Energy helped me immensely during the COVID struggle where I could not afford the bill. They made me a payment plan over 2 months which really eased the pressure and even checked in with me mid way through to see how I’m going.
