Frequently asked questions about Travel with Kit travel insurance:

Q1. Who can apply for Travel with Kit policies?

To buy a travel insurance policy from Travel with Kit, you’ll need to:

Q2. Are pre-existing medical conditions covered by Travel with Kit policies?

The purpose of travel insurance is to cover any serious injury or medical conditions that may occur whilst you’re overseas, so if you already know about any pre-existing medical conditions you should check your policy to see if they’re covered. And while Travel with Kit policies will cover a number of medical conditions, you won’t be covered if you have been hospitalised for the condition within the last two years.

Make sure you read the fine print of the full conditions list which is available in your Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), as some come with certain exclusions. For example, asthma is covered providing that you: have no other lung disease, and are less than 60 years of age at the date of policy purchase.

If you’d like to find out more about travelling with a pre-existing medical condition, check out our travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions guide.

Q3. When’s the best time to purchase a travel insurance policy?

The best thing to do is buy your Travel with Kit travel insurance policy as soon as you start booking the rest of your trip. That’s because you will be covered for cancellation benefits as soon as you have paid the premium and have been issued with a certificate of insurance. Cover for all other benefits starts on the date of departure and ends on your date of return, as shown on your certificate of insurance.

Q4. Can I extend my Travel with Kit policy while I am travelling?

If something unexpected happens and you can’t get home on time, it is generally possible to extend your Travel with Kit policy, so long as you meet some criteria. For example, as long as you’re still the correct age for the selected plan, your personal circumstances haven’t changed and you have not made a claim on your original policy.

Also, note that your Travel with Kit policy will auto-extend if your trip is delayed past the finish date shown on your Certificate of Insurance or if you make a claim (for example, in regards to a medical condition).

Q5. Is it possible to cancel my Travel with Kit policy?

It is! If for some reason you change your mind about the Travel with Kit policy, you can cancel it within the 14-day cooling-off period, starting on the day you are issued with your Certificate of Insurance. You’ll be refunded your premium in full provided your trip hasn’t started, you haven’t made a claim and you don’t want to make a claim. It’s possible to cancel anytime outside of the 14 days, but note that you will not be refunded any part of your premium if you do so.

Fine print to look out for in Travel with Kit policies:

Just like other travel insurance providers, conditions and exclusions apply to each insurance policy and that’s why it’s important that you read and understand the fine print of your Travel with Kit policy.

Here’s a snapshot of what you’re not covered for:

Although there are more exclusions listed in your PDS, there are 10 other extra cover options available to purchase for activities and special gear like snow, bicycle, golf, cruise, business and more. So make sure you look into extra cover if you’ve planned these in your itinerary.

How to make a claim with Travel with Kit travel insurance:

Hopefully, you won’t need to make a travel insurance claim, but in the event that you do, here’s how to claim with Travel with Kit:
