It may be in the name, but the Aussie Select Basic Variable home loan is far from basic. With competitive low variable rates starting from just 2.89% (2.91% comparison rate*), no ongoing service fee to worry about and handy features like a redraw facility, a split account and the ability to make free extra repayments, this is a home loan that could prove a good fit for any homebuyer. In fact, it's even won a 2021 Mozo Experts Choice Award for best Split Home Loan.
Aussie are well known for their mantra “we’ll save you”, and when it comes to the Select Basic Variable home loan that slogan holds up. Both owner occupiers and investors will be able to borrow amounts between $100,000 and $5,000,000 with the loan, with interest rates for owner occupiers starting at 2.89% (2.91% comparison rate*) and 2.99% (3.01% comparison rate*) for investors.
Eligible owner occupiers will also be able to borrow with a deposit as low as 5% (although Lenders Mortgage Insurance may be required for deposits under 20%), and all borrowers will be able to split their loan up to four times if they’re wanting to fix a portion of it.
While the loan doesn’t come with an offset account, that doesn’t mean borrowers won’t be able to save via other handy features like the extra repayments facility. Speaking of which, borrowers who end up making additional repayments towards their loan and need to dip back into them (for whatever reason) will be able to do so thanks to the redraw facility. Just bear in mind that there’s a minimum redraw amount of $100.
The last thing you’re probably itching to know about is fees. The good news is that Aussie doesn't charge an ongoing service fee, however, borrowers will need to budget for a $330 legal fee upfront, as well as the $535 discharge fee which comes into play once the loan is paid off in full.
The Aussie Select Basic Variable home loan is a budget-friendly option for first time buyers and investors alike, complete with all the hallmarks of a basic loan (competitive rates and a low number of fees) combined with handy extra features like extra repayments, redraws and the split loan option.
While the lack of any ongoing service fees will help borrowers keep their costs down over the life of the loan, the legal and discharge fees may prove unwelcome expenses.

I can not recommend Aussie Gawler any more highly! They were phenomenal in every aspect- completely transparent, always available to discuss any questions I had even after hours and on weekends- would literally reply to me minutes after sending a message! For what is usually a stressful process, Aussie made it seamless and the best part was he was able to get our loan approved in just 4 weeks! This allowed us to move our settlement forward and get in our new house even quicker! I couldn't believe it and I will truly recommend him time and time again for any loan needs.

Read full reviewI had the worst experience with An Aussie broker they needed two extensions and then came back saying you can’t service these loans. I had already spoken with a different firm and my refinance for current property and new loan for investment were all unconditionally approved within 10 days. Unfortunately the house I was buying fell through due to having to get extensions for Aussie so I am back to looking again but with finance approved. I ended up with better interest rates and far superior service. My complaints to Aussie regarding the broker fell on deaf ears they don’t like complaints. My advice is to stay away it was very obvious the broker I was dealing with has very little understanding and if you are a government working and salary sacrifice then you will be battling with people who don’t understand how this works or how reimbursement works. Just don’t go there do your due diligence because that was my mistake I didn’t when I got involved with them.
