During the last financial year, the ABS also found that Australians were mainly travelling to visit friends and family overseas, which accounted for 48% of those surveyed.

The number of people travelling to visit friends and family overseas has dropped by 4.5% (from 52.7%) since the last financial year.

The other top reasons Australians were travelling included holidaying (33.5%) and for business (8%).

However the amount of people who say they’re travelling for a holiday has risen sharply from 10.5% of travellers last financial year, to 33.5% in FY 21–22.
