From a warm bath to an hour long massage, we all deserve a little luxury every once in a while. But if you're keen to indulge in a bit of luxury with your shopping habits, you might be considering picking up a rewards credit card

Unlike a regular credit card, these flashy pieces of plastic are loaded with a range of features and rewards. So if you’d like to find out what extra perks you could get your hands on, check out our list below.

Introductory bonus points

Many credit card providers often have special deals and offers exclusive for new customers, which gives you the opportunity to load up on rewards. Most of the time, these exclusive offers include introductory bonus points and can range from anywhere between 50,000 to 150,000.

For example, if you were to sign up to the American Express Explorer Credit Card, you could earn up to 50,000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points, while the St.George Amplify Platinum Credit Card is offering up to 70,000 bonus Qantas Points for new customers.

Just keep in mind though that while special deals like these can help get your points balance off to a smashing start, there’s generally a spending criteria you’ll have to meet in order to claim these bonus points.

Gift cards and vouchers

With Christmas Day inching closer, it won’t be long until our savings take a hit. But if you’re savvy with your spending, you might be able to redeem your points for gift cards or vouchers.

Depending on what you plan to purchase, you could either pass on the gift cards as their Christmas present or use it to purchase a gift you know they’d love. Or if vouchers are more your game, you could use these to save some coin on your Christmas shopping.

Cashback

Many credit cards also give you the ability to redeem your points for cashback, which depending on your points balance, can be between $50 to $1,000. One clever way to use your cashback could be to cover the annual fee of the credit card or pay down the card’s balance.

On the other hand, you could also opt to use the cashback to cover a portion of your Christmas shopping!

Shopping insurances

While this last feature isn’t necessarily a reward, it can come in handy if you’re a regular shopper. Aside from points and special privileges, rewards credit cards also come with nifty bonuses, like extended warranty and purchase or price protection. These insurances can add an extra layer of protection on your purchases.

For instance, purchase protection can help you get the best price for items, while extended warranties can ensure any damaged item you purchased using the card is covered.
