If you’re after a card that provides top-level privileges like purchase and price protection while also offering a low purchase rate, the Bank of Melbourne Vertigo Platinum Credit Card could be right for you. New cardholders will also get the chance to receive $300 cashback, so long as certain spend requirements are met upon approval. And if you need any more convincing, the Vertigo Platinum card was recognised in the Low Rate Platinum Credit Card category in this year’s Mozo Experts Choice Awards.

Key features

One of the Vertigo Platinum Credit Card’s major selling points is its low 12.99% purchase rate, along with the 55 interest free days on purchases made with the card (so long as you pay your balance in full by the end of each billing period).

New cardholders will also get the chance to receive $300 cashback when $900 is spent on eligible purchases within 90 days of approval (terms and conditions apply, offer ends 30 March 2021).

As far as fees go, you’ll be charged a $99 annual fee and if you’re tardy with your repayments you’ll also be subject to a $15 late payment fee. If you withdraw cash with the card, not only will you immediately start paying interest at the 21.49% cash advance rate but you’ll also incur a 2% or $2.50 cash advance fee. It’s also worth mentioning that you’ll be charged a 3.00% foreign exchange margin when using this card overseas.

Bank of Melbourne also delivers a range of complimentary features with this credit card, including access to Visa’s 24/7 concierge service to help organise your social calendar, book tickets for concerts and gigs, and make restaurant reservations.

You’ll also have the luxury of purchase protection insurance, so the cost to replace your new toys will be covered for up to four months from the purchase date. The availability of price protection also means that if you find a cheaper product elsewhere within three weeks of the transaction, Bank of Melbourne will reimburse you the difference.

And if you've got some lingering debt you'd rather seen gone, the Vertigo Platinum Credit Card also features a 6.99% balance transfer offer for 12 months.

Any catches

Just be aware there is a $15 late payment fee so it might be worth automating your credit card repayments, which should be easy enough with online banking.

Hopeless. Everything is just a mess and hopeless

My review is that the online banking is far too hard for older people, we have no idea what to do. Staff try to explain but it is far too complicated a system and is directed for the young ones.
