The very first credit card from Qantas Money, this card is aimed at frequent flyers, with plenty of rewards value including the ability to earn Qantas Points for domestic and international spending, as well as a heap of travel benefits including 2 single-entry Qantas Club lounge passes per year. There’s also the opportunity to snag 80,000 bonus Qantas Points in the first three months!
In fact, it's great reward value was part of the reason the Qantas Premier Platinum Credit Card took out a 2021 Mozo Experts Choice Credit Card Award for best Qantas Frequent Flyer Premium Credit Card.
The Premier Platinum Credit Card from Qantas Money packs solid rewards earning power for frequent travellers - especially those who love to fly and shop Qantas.
The card comes with some pretty typical features for a rewards card, including a 19.99% p.a. purchase rate, 21.99% p.a. cash advance rate and a $299 annual fee ($225 in the first year).
Where the card really comes into its own is with points earning for Frequent Flyer members and spenders who travel often. Points are automatically credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account which means you’ll have to either already be a member, or sign up to get the card (sign up is free for cardholders).
Here’s how points earning breaks down:
1 point per $1 on spending in Australia, up to $10,000 each month (0.5 points per $1 after)
1.5 points per $1 on international spending (don’t forget about the 3% foreign exchange margin!)
1 extra point per $1 on eligible Qantas spends, including Qantas flights
Plus if you sign up before 29 June 2022, you can also snag 80,000 bonus Qantas Points. How do you get your hands on these points? Once approved, you'll receive 80,000 bonus Qantas Points for spending $3,000 or more on eligible purchases within the first three months. For big spenders, this is a great chance to boost your points stash!
But that's not all... There are also a bunch of great benefits on offer for jetsetting spenders, including complimentary travel insurance, two complimentary single-entry Qantas Club lounge invitations, a concierge service to help you snag things like event tickets and restaurant reservations. Plus, when you book domestic Qantas flights through the concierge with your Premier Mastercard, once a year you can cash in on discounts of up to 20% for you and up to 8 people travelling with you.
If you want to clear some lingering credit card debt when applying for a Premier Mastercard, you can do so with the 0% p.a. balance transfer offer for 18 months (1% balance transfer fee does apply). Just make sure you have a plan in place to clear your debt in that time, since afterwards, any leftover balance will be charged interest at 21.99% p.a.
Unsurprisingly, the Premier Platinum credit card is likely better suited to spenders who travel often and love to shop Qantas. The annual fee and interest rate are reasonably high, so it’s great for big spenders who’ll get enough value from the travel freebies on offer to justify the cost, and pay off their balance in full and on time.
Don't forget that when you use your points for a Classic Flight Reward with Qantas, taxes, fees and carrier charges also apply. For example, at the time of writing, a return Economy Classic Flight Reward from Sydney to London is 120,000 Qantas Points plus $724 in taxes, fees and carrier charges. Keep in mind this extra cost might change depending on when and what you book.

To work out the "Rewards value minus fees" in our Rewards Revealer we:
calculate how many points you'd get each year,
figure out how many flights or gift cards or cashback credits you could get for those points,
work out what that's actually worth to you,
take off the annual fee you'd pay.
More details:
Our calculations are designed to help you compare the value of different rewards schemes. To do this, we've looked at earning a one-way Sydney-Melbourne flight excluding taxes and charges, a return Sydney-London flight excluding taxes and charges, a $100 shopping Gift Card and $100 cashback. Most cards will also offer other rewards, which may be worth more or less than the ones we've shown.
We have made no allowance for bonus points for using your card at specific merchants, introductory offers or special offers. We have not assigned any value to instant discounts, insurances, ticketing and concierge services or other such benefits.
Rewards value calculations do not take credit card interest into account. If you do not pay off your card each month you may be better off looking for a card based on interest rates than on the value of rewards.
In products that have more than one card, a different mix of spend between American Express / Visa / Mastercard will give different results. Mozo's Rewards Revealer lets you choose the mix based on the way you would use such a product, and gives you tailored results.
We assume flights purchased with airline points are 'classic' or 'reward' economy seats with restricted seat availability. 'Any seat' rewards will probably cost more.
To compare the value of flight rewards, we sample online retail flight prices once a quarter based on the average price on a Wednesday 3 months in advance but outside NSW school holidays. For domestic flights we take the lowest available fare from each flight on that day from Qantas Red e-deal, Virgin Australia Saver including baggage and Jetstar Starter including baggage. We calculate the average price excluding taxes and surcharges for each airline, and also the average across all airlines (which we use when rewards are travel agent vouchers). For international flights, we take the lowest available fares on that same Wednesday from each of Qantas, Emirates, Malaysian, Etihad, Singapore, Cathay Pacific and Thai, assuming a return flight 2 weeks later, calculate the average price before taxes and surcharges and use this as our assumed cost of a flight on any airline.
Shopping rewards are based on $100 gift cards from a major national department store.
We make every effort to ensure our calculations are correct and up to date but make no guarantees.

Horrible service. Worse app and online website. If you can work out how the app shows balances without a PHD in mathematics then you must be superhuman. (2 people using 2 cards from the same account). Even trying to close the account took a month or more. Then near completion of closing i received a bill for 20 cents that you cant actually pay these days ... dont get me started on that one.

The points earn rate looks good on paper until you realise that every spend they can't figure out and characterise properly is deemed eligible. It's an absolute rort. And also, in this day and age to have a cc that doesn't support Apple/Samsung/Google Pay is a joke.

I have had this card for many years, 10+, and for the last 2 days have been unable to use it, PLUS to make matters worse we were away on holidays! I phoned up to ask why as my monthly direct debit had been taken out 4 days ago. The first lady that took my call I couldn't understand, so I called back. The second lady was not much better but I could work out what she was saying. The money had been sent by my bank but not as yet cleared. SO, they would not honour any new transactions, despite never ever in the past had I not paid my Balance immediately it was due! What wonderful service to a loyal customer! Will be looking for another credit card when home.

Pro: a great sign-on bonus and a reasonable earn rate for Qantas points. Con: expensive annual fee and high interest rate. The only value you get for your money is the points. Otherwise poor customer service based overseas who don't have answers to questions, a barely passable app and lacks basic features such an Android Pay. There's better options out there, don't get sucked in by the intro points!

The card allows you to build up more Qantas points than any other card. Which is great for family holidays. The one things we have struggled with regarding the online service is that both card holders can't view all transactions made on the account. Only the "Primary" card holder can view all transactions on the online account and other account holders can then only view their account transactions not all transactions, which is very useful.
