Hume Bank car insurance FAQs

What are my car insurance cover options?

With Hume you have three types of policies to choose from. Here’s a snapshot of what each can do for you:

Comprehensive Insurance (the highest level of cover)

  • Provide cover against fire, theft, accidents and malicious damage
  • Compensation for loss or damage if you accidentally damage someone else’s vehicle
  • Emergency repairs up to $500
  • Rental car provided if your ride gets stolen (Ts and Cs apply)
  • Stolen personal items up to $1,000

Third Party Fire and Theft Insurance (medium range of cover):

  • Cover if someone else damages your car by mistake (including if it involves fire damage)
  • Legal liability cover (meaning Hume Bank can compensate someone else on behalf of you if you accidentally damage their motor vehicle)
  • Rental car provided if your ride gets stolen (Ts and Cs apply)
  • Third Party Property Damage Insurance (least amount of coverage):
  • Cover if you damage another person’s car by mistake and they require compensation legally or otherwise

So which option should I go for?

It really depends on how much you’re comfortable paying upfront to cover your risk. If you want the highest level of coverage Hume Bank can offer you (and you’re happy to pay more for it), opt for Comprehensive Insurance. Alternatively, if you think you could cover the shortfall if an unforeseen car incident happened down the track, maybe you’d prefer to pay less now by choosing the Third Party Property Damage Insurance policy.

Any other benefits I should know about?

Yes, here’s one: Unlike other car insurance policies in the market which designate a mechanic for you, Hume Bank will let you choose your own qualified mech to do the job if your vehicle gets damaged in an incident.

How will my premium get calculated?

Hume Bank generates car insurance quotes using info such as your claims history, age and the suburb you live in. The more risky you appear to be as an applicant, the higher your premium will be.

What can I do to reduce my premium?

No longer a spring chicken? The good news is that Hume Bank will reduce your premium if you restrict your cover to drivers 25 years and over.

Any discounts?

Be glad you asked, because with Hume Bank you’ll save 10% on the first year of your insurance cover if you submit your application online. Even better, if you’ve never made a car insurance claim before, you’ll get rewarded in the form of a discount on your premium of up to 65%.

How do I make a claim?

The easiest way to claim on your car insurance is through Hume Bank’s online form. Include as much info as you can so they can assess you ASAP. Soon after you hit “submit”, Allianz will get in touch with you on behalf of Hume to finalise your claim. Alternatively, you can lodge your claim over the phone. Try to include as much info about the incident as possible to give your claim every chance of success. Good luck!
