ING DIRECT now to offer home insurance

<<UPDATE 15/02/2017>> ING DIRECT has officially launched its home insurance policy. For a full run through of what's included in the policy, visit our ING DIRECT home insurance landing page

Online lender ING DIRECT has plans to begin offering home and contents insurance to its Australian home loan customers.

In early 2017, it’s expected that the insurance offering will be available as a stand-alone home and contents insurance product, but it will initially be offered only to the 90% of customers who come through the bank’s broker network.

ING DIRECT’s insurance will be entirely digital, with an automatically generated insurance estimate emailed to borrowers when their home loan is approved. The customer will then be able to provide extra details for a full, personalised quote and have the option to purchase online right away.

It will offer a range of different cover options, including for landlords, flood, accidental damage and personal valuables, and will be available as home, contents or packaged home and contents cover.

The insurance product has been developed by ING DIRECT with the help of Auto & General insurance.

John Arnott, Executive Director, Customers, at ING DIRECT said the launch of the insurance product was about making the process of buying a home “as simple and efficient as possible for our customers.”

“It’s about understanding their broader needs at this time and making sure we can meet them – effectively offering a one stop shop,” he said.

“We’ve been helping Australians into their homes for two decades with our home loans, and now we’re helping them to protect their homes and providing peace of mind.”
