Before you see 'free wine' and run off to apply for the Citi Clear credit card take a minute to soak up the other striking features such as a low 14.99% purchase rate, a reasonable $99 annual fee, along with a range of complimentary insurances. These features have earned this card a 2020 Mozo Experts Choice Award in the best Low Rate Platinum Credit Card category.

Key features

The Citi Clear comes with a low ongoing purchase rate of 14.99%, one of the lowest in the market for a platinum card, plus the $99 annual fee is also one of the lowest around for a platinum credit card.

If you're heading overseas, you'll be able to use the credit card wherever MasterCard is accepted - which is pretty much at most retailers around the world. But remember, for international purchases you'll face a 3.40% foreign exchange margin if you pay on your Citi Clear but this is standard and no deal breaker.

As a Citi Clear card holder you'll get top insurance coverage with up to $200,000 purchase cover insurance for goods lost or stolen within 90 days for any items purchased on your card. Also included is a manufacturers warranty doubled up to 12 months on purchases. And the guaranteed pricing scheme means if you make a purchase on your card and you see it on sale at a later stage, you can get a refund on the price difference.

The Citi Clear card is all about privileges. Receive an award winning bottle of wine every time you dine in a partner restaurant as part of Citi's Dining Program and you'll also get 25% off offers available on Citi World Privileges, which includes deals for shopping, health spas, a Sydney Bridge climb and even discounted movie tickets.

Need more convincing? The value doesn't stop there, as Citi also has a special offer for new cardholders valid until 31 October, 2020. The offer is a seriously low 0.90% rate on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months, though keep in mind that the balance transfer rate will revert to the high 22.24% cash advance rate after that period.

Who is it good for

The Citi Clear will no doubt knock the socks off anyone who loves a good savings deal with its low purchase rate, extensive features and its low rate introductory offer of just 0.90% for purchases and balance transfers.

Any catches

At the moment, this card features a high 22.24% cash advance rate, so steer clear of the ATM!

Horrible, terrible card with bad penalty rates!

We have a Citibank platinum credit card and it is seriously a bad product. The interest rate is terrible. The overdue penalties are horrible. I regret ever getting this card and I am trying to pay it off as soon as I can so I can chop it up and never use it again!

    Great!

I like this bank because they offer low rates, and the interest free period of 18 months on my credit card was much longer than what other banks offered.

Won’t help me reduce my debt

They won’t let me combine my credit card with the loan I already have with them.

Low interest rates and helpful customer support.

Have found the customer support staff to be helpful and understanding in times where payment is going to be late. They have offered assistance. Be aware of low rate balance transfers reverting to higher than usual rate after transfer term has ended, pretty sure this applies to most banks though.
