Qantas launches new low-fee credit card aimed at millennial travellers

Christmas may have come early for travel junkies and frequent flyer points lovers alike, with the launch of the newest credit card offering by Qantas - the Qantas Premier Everyday Mastercard.

This is the second credit card launched by the national carrier following hot on the heels of the Qantas Premier Platinum card which was launched in June, though the latest offering appears to be a more budget-friendly offering with a $49 annual fee.

According to Jayne Hrdlicka, Qantas Loyalty and Digital Ventures CEO, features such as the $49 annual fee and complimentary travel insurance are aimed at appealing to globetrotting, younger Australians.

“Millennials are our fastest growing member segment and we know they love to travel,” she said.

“Qantas Premier Everyday has a low annual fee, but offers the highest Qantas Points earn rate for a low fee Mastercard, meaning it’s easier for members to build their points balance faster and use them towards travel rewards like flights, hotel stays and car hire.”

When it comes to regular card features, the Qantas Premier Everyday Mastercard includes a 55 day interest free period and relatively standard rewards card rates - such as a 19.99% purchase rate and 21.99% cash advance rate.

The new card, which is issued by Citi, also features a pretty generous, uncapped points earning system for a low fee rewards card:

  • 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases in Australia (up to $3,000 per billing period), and 0.4 points thereafter.
  • 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible international purchases
  • 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible Qantas products such as flights and gift vouchers
