If you purchase a new comprehensive Car Insurance policy before 4 July 2022, and hold the policy for at least 6 months, you’re eligible to receive 10,000 Velocity Points (conditions apply).
Like many comprehensive car insurance policies, this one ticks off major natural disasters, accidents and theft when covering your vehicle at an agreed upon value or at market price. You’ll also be sorted if you damage other cars or property, and can expect specific coverage for things like personal property (up to $500), baby capsules (up to $500) and trailers (up to $1,000).
After an accident, you can book in for towing (if the vehicle is unsafe to drive because of the damage) and essential repairs which Virgin Money will cover up to $500. You can also claim up to $1,000 (at $200 per-day) for travel and accommodation costs after an insurable incident. If your car is stolen or if you’re in a not-at-fault accident, you’ll be eligible for hire car cover up to 14 days (or up to $1,000). At-fault hire car cover can be included as an optional extra, but this will come at an additional cost.
There are a couple of other things which also come optionally at price bumps, like reduced excess windscreen cover and having your own choice of repairer.
Speaking of discounts – there are a few we better mention. That no claims discount can go as high as 15% of your premium if you don't make any at-fault claims for a specific number of consecutive years. And you’ll knock another 15% off your premium in the first year simply by applying for your policy online.

If you’re a young or inexperienced driver (under 21 or with less than 2 years driving history), there is an additional excess of $600. And if you want to pay your premium in monthly instalments, it’ll cost extra.

Considering the reputation of Virgin, I really think they are competitively priced. They’re only a tiny bit more expensive than Budget direct. Their customer service is great and their cover for theft is as high as other premium comprehensive plans.

Had a terrible experience last year trying to get my car fixed properly with Virgin. After the accident I opted to get my car fixed at my chosen repairer. After getting the car assessed I got a call from the senior assessor at virgin saying he had approved the damages to the car. The only issue was he only approved the minor issues (the cheap ones) and avoided the major. I only found out because my repairer advised (and showed photo evidence) that there was other major damages hidden under the car that was caused in the accident and needed to be replaced. When I called the assessor back he was adamant that the repairer was just trying to milk more damages out of the car and that I should just accept it and move on. After going back and forth and getting really frustrated the repairer suggested to me to get a third party assessor in and to let the insurer know that it was dangerous and against the law not to replace the cracked part (called a ''cross member'' from memory?). Not long after I suggested to the assessor that I wanted a third party opinion to come in to re-assess, I then got a text back (not a call) to say that the extra repairs had now been approved (about 5k worth). They were trying to rip me off from the start! Was so angry at the time. I recommend to make sure you have a choice of your own repairer (because they will only fix what they can see on the outside), and secondly get a third party opinion if your repairer suggests it. I'd say most insurers are like this, not just Virgin.
