Domain Insure is a new offering from property experts, Domain.com.au. When you take out their Contents Insurance policy, you’ll have a wide range of cover for your belongings, even when they’re away from your residence. The policy comes with a handy 24/7 claims service, as well as generous discounts and flexible optional extras.
Domain Insure has comprehensive baseline coverage for your belongings, as well as specified cover if you’d like to increase price limits.
Your policy will cover you should fire, floods, explosions, burst pipes, storms and even earthquakes or tsunamis affect the contents of your home. Any damages or loss caused by theft or burglary will also be covered, as will the result of vandalism. However, some events won’t be considered insurable, like storm surges, so be sure to check your PDS for all the details.
The list of contents inclusions with Domain Insure is extensive, covering everything from jewellery to work equipment, sports items and cash. Check the limits on the standard cover for these, and see if there’s the option to increase it if your items are more valuable and require additional security. For example, handwoven rugs and carpets can only be covered for up to $2,000, while artworks are covered up to $1,000 per item (up to $5,000 collectively) but this limit can be increased to reflect value.
Items stored in the open air at your address (like on a balcony or in the backyard) are covered for up to 20% of the sum insured, as are pieces kept away from the residence (for up to 90 consecutive days). Check your PDS for a detailed list on the specific items which will and won’t be covered if kept away from the insured address. You can also take out additional cover for portable items like jewellery or laptops for if they are damaged or lost while you’re not at home.
Keep an eye out for discounts too – Domain Insure currently offers 12% off your first year’s premium if you buy your policy online.
Someone like a rental tenant who wants flexible cover for their belongings but doesn’t also need to insure a property.
Like all insurance policies, not every single event or item is covered. Uncut gems, photography equipment and other items are not included, and sport equipment (excluding pedal cycles) isn’t covered while being used at or away from the address.
