These days your credit card is more than ‘extra cash’ to help you get things you want now and pay for them later. A credit card can be your ticket to free wine at restaurants, A Reserve AFL tickets, to living it large at the international business lounge while you wait for your free rewards flight to Hamilton Island.
Credit card features, or card extras are what the banks want you to focus on when you’re out looking for a new credit card, not that double digit interest rate in small print.
Complimentary insurances are big. Most credit cards come with standard insurances like extended warranty and purchase protection if something you’ve bought on the card gets lost, damaged or stolen in a set time. There is also price protection that allows you to get reimbursed the difference between the price you paid for a new item and a lower printed advertised price for the same item.
If you’re looking at a higher end credit card (gold, platinum or black) many cards throw in free international travel insurance, which if you travel overseas regularly can be a big saving.
