With 70,000 bonus Qantas Points up for grabs when you apply online, are approved and spend $3,000 on your new card within the first 3 months (new Amex Card Members only, T&C's apply), the Qantas American Express Ultimate Card is... ultimately rewarding. What's more, you can bag 1.25 points for every dollar you spend on Amex, up to 100,000 Points per year, then 1 point per dollar, uncapped (T&Cs).
It also won the 2023 Mozo Experts Choice Award for best Qantas Frequent Flyer Premium Credit Card.
The Qantas Ultimate credit card from American Express has a high annual fee of $450, but the $450 Qantas Travel Credit you snag each year neatly cancels out that cost.
Using this credit, you can book eligible Qantas flights online through American Express Travel. Standard card features include up to 44 interest free days, 23.99% p.a. purchase rate, and there's the option of up to 4 additional Card Members for free, so you can get your partner to help build up those rewards points. But remember to pay those bills on time, or you'll be hit with a $30 late payment fee.
For every $1 spent on everyday purchases except spend at government bodies in Australia, you will earn 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 spent. And for every dollar spent on Qantas products and services in Australia, you will earn 1 additional Qantas Point.
After a total of 100,000 Qantas Points is earned in a calendar year, the everyday earn rate will change from 1.25 to 1 Qantas Points per $1 spent.*
The Qantas American Express Ultimate Card also comes with those coveted AMEX service benefits such as free domestic and international travel inconvenience insurance, card refund cover and card purchase cover and global 24/7 customer service.
If you apply online before 14 January 2025, get approved, and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases, you could receive 50,000 bonus Qantas Points. T&Cs apply, new Amex Card Members only.
The Qantas American Express Ultimate Card could be a great option for anyone that prefers flying within the Qantas network and pays off their full balance regularly, otherwise that 23.99% p.a. interest rate will sting.
If you're planning on using the free travel inconvenience insurance attached the card you'll need to purchase the trip on your Qantas AMEX Ultimate credit card or with QFF reward points for it to be valid. There's also a $6 dishonour fee and a $30 late fee to be aware of.

So you go along for months, paying in full, using their preferred payment method until it suddenly stops working. You get a message to ‘contact card member service’ You call them to find out they are ‘closed’ even though the web page says they are open. You get on a text chat and after 40 minutes of wasted time you finally get someone who tells you it’s your problem, your web browser, your computer. You try a different web browser in a different computer, and it still doesn’t work. But you are reassured it’s ‘your problem’ You request the issue be looked into to find that a month later you will need to go through the same hour long process to pay for bill. Pointless nonsense, too many hoops to jump through. Stick with your bank, o matter how frustrated you are with them, they somehow seem to manage to work things out, but Amex… 2 months later it’s still my problem their web page won’t process my payment!

They have the worst customer service I have ever seen in a credit card company. Don't even bother.

Great credit card, especially for travel.

AMEX has this embedded dislike from many retailers and despite efforts to be more user friendly, the card sadly isn't accepted as easily as Mastercard or VISA. That said their local initiatives that support local as well as generous rewarding for per point spent still makes this my preferred card to use. Another bonus is the $450 annual Qantas credit once you get over the equally hefty annual fee of $450. The fee is cancelled out by the credit which makes owning the card not so bad on a year by year basis.

There is no fault with this credit card. The service is also amazing and the features are plentiful.
