Aussies get generous with international money transfers for the holidays
If you’re sending money to a loved one this season, you’re far from alone. In fact, new figures from international money transfer technology company Wise show that when it comes to gifting money abroad for the holidays, Aussies are some of the most generous in the world.
How much money are we sending overseas?
According to Wise, the average amount an Australian gifts overseas - specifically noting “Christmas” as the reason - is $327, a significant increase on last year’s average of $294.
This could be linked to Australia’s large migrant population, with approximately 30% of us born overseas. Sending gifts overseas can be costly, and with a cost of living crisis at hand, many of us are looking to support those at home however we can.
Aussies aren’t alone when it comes to sending money abroad. When it comes to the most and least generous countries for money gifting, according to Wise, we ranked 4th.
