Jetstar responds to strong demand for domestic travel this summer

Jetstar has responded to strong demand for travel to Queensland this upcoming holiday season by increasing the domestic seat capacity to holiday hotspots including Brisbane, Cairns, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

From November 2015 and March 2016, the airline will offer an additional 300,000 domestic seats in and out of the sunshine state compared with the previous seasonal flying in that period.

Jetstar Australia and New Zealand Head of Commercial Nigel Fanning said the changing value of the Australian dollar is making domestic travel to popular Queensland holiday spots more appealing for Australians.

“The extra flights are not only great news for tourism and holiday operators up north, they will also provide more opportunities for our Queensland customers to get away and explore Sydney and Melbourne with our low fares this summer,” he said.

Queensland Tourism Minister Kate Jones welcomed the news and said it was a real vote of confidence in the industry.

“Our Great Barrier Reef and beautiful beaches are some of the world’s most iconic tourist destinations and now they’ll be even more accessible with Jetstar’s additional flights,” she said.

The move comes as Jetstar prepares to launch its first direct link between Queensland and one of the largest cities in China, Wuhan, in the upcoming weeks which is expected to offer 70,000 seats annually and boost local tourism.
