The big cruise mistake Aussies could be making
From seniors to teens, it seems nearly every Aussie traveller has caught the cruise bug.
In 2016 alone, over 1.2 million Aussies travelled on a cruise - a 21% increase from the previous year.
By 2020, cruise lines are expecting this number to reach 2 million.
“We are seeing a cruise market that is on a growth path quite unlike anything that’s been seen in the world, outside of China,” said Royal Caribbean’s Managing Director, Adam Armstrong, last year.

The South Pacific is the most popular destination for Aussie cruisers, thanks to its close proximity to home and the larger number of cruise lines.
But as Aussies pack their bags and organise their passports, it’s not an uncommon practise to forget another cruise essential: travel insurance.
“Cruises are a great way to see the world without having to go too far from home. But many Aussies make the mistake of skipping travel insurance,” said Mozo Director, Kirsty Lamont.
“What Aussies might not know is that Medicare will only cover you as long as you are in port - on water, you’ll need travel insurance to cover you for any medical mishaps.”

Ironically, a survey last year by travel insurer, InsureandGo, found that the top cruise fears among Aussie travellers were on-board medical issues.
The survey also found that 8% of Aussies worried about lost or stolen belongings, mechanical failure (7%) and onshore incidents (7%).
