A quick guide to online Christmas shopping

Many people prefer to do the Christmas shopping online rather than face the crowds and queues at the shopping centre.

Online shopping is a time saving and convenient way to do your Christmas shopping, but be aware that you may be subject to some shipping delays due to the extra pressure that the postal service is under at this time of year.

Luckily, there are things you can do to help your Christmas shopping experience run smoothly.

Here are our top tips!

  • Start your Christmas shopping early. Australia Post urges people to start placing their Christmas orders early and avoid potential delays. Consider starting at the upcoming sales events, Click Frenzy and Black Friday to save money and get ahead of the rush!
  • Read the shipping policy on the retailers website. Before ordering, check shop shipping policies for how long they’ll take. We have previously reviewed eight online shops with fast delivery, check that out here.
  • Do Click and Collect. If you live near the store you’re ordering from, opt to Click and Collect to receive your order sooner. Choosing Click and Collect can also save you money on shipping costs.
  • Pay extra for express delivery. If you’re really worried about your parcel not arriving in time for Christmas, consider paying a few dollars more to get priority delivery.
  • Check the box for “leave unattended”. To avoid a trip to the post office and a potentially long wait in line, tick the box and specify a safe delivery place.
  • Sign up for shipping notifications. Opt in for shipping notifications via email or text so you can track where your package is.
